Progs Known to be Incompatible with TI 9.0?

I still cannot get TI 9.0 (3677) to make a backup even though the program seemed to install without error. TI just hangs at 0% when I try to make a backup under Windows. (It works fine from the Rescue CD both in creating a backup image and in mounting/dismounting it.)

I wondering if members of the forum can advise me about programs that are known to be incompatible with (or unfriendly to) TI 9.0 and which might be causing TI to hang on my machine.

I'm particularly interested in whether having Norton Ghost 10 or Nero installed along with TI could cause TI to have problems. I'm not running Ghost or Nero simultaneously with TI, but they are both on my machine.

Also, are there any anti-virus or anti-spyware programs that might interfere with TI's operations? I use eTrust antivirus, SpySweeper anti-spyware and Zone Alarm Pro firewall.

I'm really anxious to get TI to work so I can dump Ghost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Ive had ghost and TI installed on my desktop at the same time. They both worked without troubles.
I've also installed those security programs you mentioned.
    Hope it helps.

Thanks. I'm trying to guess any possible cause for the problems I'm having getting TI 9.0 to work under Windows. There are a few other posters who have said they have the same problem with TI hanging up at 0% in making backups, but no one has been able to offer us a solution yet.

I have a support ticket in on this issue, but I understand that Acronis is not famous for quick responses to support requests. (And that is now my experience on this ticket.)

Thanks again, enigmah, for the response.

Anyone else have any suggestions about possible programs, dlls or drivers that might be causing my problem?

I've found that any program using sptd drivers (mostly virtual cd programs drives such as daemon tools or alocohol soft) seem to have a conflict.

I can recreate the problem by having both programs installed, then attempting to install a new generic volume (such as a usb key that was never inserted into the machine before). This causes the device manager to crash, and my system cannot shutdown... at this point I have to force an unclean shutdown.

I've noticed that daemon has a new sptd driver out, I have not tested this issue with it yet, only v4...

I also have alcohol installed, again, with no problems. Can some one test it with Daemon?

Your Acronis Rescue CD seems to work properly, so the trouble must be somewhere on your system partition.

I would suspect Norton Ghost first, because Norton Ghost is also a backup software and Symantec softwares are quite dominating and usually hard to uninstall.

Then I would suspect Windows and re-install my system partition from scratch or try to repair Windows (if that works).

That is of course, what I would do and you don't need to follow my advice, because I also know how long it takes to re-install everything from scratch.

Trying another image backup software, like Terabyte BING/IFW/IFD would be my last option.

Yes, I have suspected that Ghost 10 may be the problem -- particularly because of Symantec's practices. I uninstalled Ghost 10 on another machine recently and then did a registry search and found 174 entries from Symantec, even though I don't have any Symantec products (Ghost, AV, etc.) installed on that machine. In fact, the reason I want to change from Ghost to Acronis TI is precisely because I understand Symantec writes to the boot record with a rootkit to authenticate the software license.

My problem is that the machine in question is really my wife's and she just won't let me uninstall Ghost and leave her without a backup she knows (based on previous disaster recoveries) will work unless I can show her in black and white that someone has said Ghost is definitely incompatible with TI. Unfortunately, others on the forum have said they have Ghost installed alongside TI without problems.

As far as reinstalling Windows, that certainly makes sense but it is something I can't even consider. I have a huge amount of software that would have to be reinstalled, and it just wouldn't be worth it just to get Acronis working. If I had to make that tradeoff, I'd stay with Ghost, as much as I dislike Symantec. I'm trying to nurse my computer and my wife's computer -- both about three years old -- until VISTA comes out after Christmas and then I'll buy two new machines and start clean with a reinstall of all our software on the new computers running VISTA.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's looking like I'm going to have to continue using Ghost on my wife's machine -- unless I move to Paragon 8, which I also purchased a couple of months ago but do not like. I hate that I spent $50 on Acronis TI and cannot get it to work. I confess I'm feeling ripped off right now, even though the problem may be with a conflict on my own machine.

    akroid,
After reading your last post, I would stick to Norton Ghost and wait until you have your new computers and keep Acronis True Image in a safe place.
And you will keep your wife happy for awhile. People usually don't like changes when everything goes well.
A new computer is usually the very best moment to make changes in software. It's a better excuse. :D
