Apparently SpywareBalster stores information in the registry that isn't removed when the program is uninstalled. I needed to uninstall/re-install and now I need to clear out all the info in the Browser Pages window. There is incorrect information there and it is causing a few problems for me with IE. Any suggestions?

Thanks and make it a great day,

    Woody o_O

    Hey Woody,

Just so you know....Spywareblaster does not place that information in the registry. It reads that Start page and various Search page keys from the appropriate Internet Explorer section of the registry and displays that info in the Spywareblaster Browser Pages section.

Some of those items you can change back to Microsoft defaults via IE's Tools\Internet Options\Programs tab....bottom left area select Reset Web Settings....which will reset some of the Search settings and will also reset the Current users Home page to http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&pver=6&ar=msnhome.

If you are only wanting to do the ones that you feel are incorrect....with Spywareblaster open highlight the item by clicking on it and then select More Info on Item. Once you know what function it's for you can then select Change....and change it to what's appropriate.

Let us know how it goes Please.

OK, thanks for the info. I've done most of the suggestions, but there is one link that keeps reappearing in SpywareBalster and I can't seem to get ride of it. I changed all the info in regedit and the bad link doesn't show up in IE.

Thanks again and Make it a great day

hi, I've been trying for about a whole day to change the IE's start/home page to ebay instead of google.

this thread seems to be the most relevant "information" that I can find, but I still can't change that darn start/home page! it still stays as google.com, even after I reset everything through IE's reset feature. o_O what did I do wrong here? I even have disabled every protection feature from Spyware Blaster and still the home page is set as google.com :'(

please advise. doing uninstall, change that darn page, and then do the reinstall Spyware Blaster would be the last thing I want to do. :cautious:

hi snowbound... this computer is pretty empty because it's not the main one, usually used if the main comp is busy... this comp got the basic stuff, beside Spyware Blaster, I installed an anti virus (Grisoft AVG), firewall (Zone Alarm free), Free Internet Window Washer (the junk cleaner), NoAds (anti popup program), and Spybot.

btw I forgot to mention that when I tried to reset the IE setting to original, it said "can't reset, no permission". should I uninstall Spyware Blaster and Spybot first? :doubt:

    Sorry for the late response...

Just to confirm, is anything to do with your homepage settings in IE's Tools>Internet Options greyed out? Why i ask is SpywareBlaster and Spybot S&D have options available to block any changes to do with your homepage settings.

If not and as i don't use IE, i would just try disabling my security programs one by one to see if this has any effect. I have also read that Zone Alarm can do this sometimes so u might want to start there.

honestly I really don't know what's going on with that computer. because there's no reply, I decided to uninstall SpyBot and Spyware Blaster. even after doing so, that darn start page won't change! well, anyway before uninstalling everything I did a scan and the program found nothing, beside an excite cookie.

I use a paid program now (from Webroot) and I made the change on the program itself, since Windows won't let me change a thing. nothing is greyed out, I can type anything I want as a start page and click on "apply". but the minute I open a browser page, it'll still be google's. :( :'( ..pretty annoying :cautious:

    aufruhr:

If you are running any of the following versions of ZoneAlarm that is the cause of the problem:
    • 6.5.700.000
    • 6.5.714.000
    • 6.5.722.000
Either reboot your system without ZoneAlarm running and then change your home page or download and install version 6.5.731.000:
