Decent program . There are a few better choices . The main thing is noone knows how long the company will be afloat . I THINK they are having some problems there . So , if you buy a license for 12 months , you may only get 3 . Nothing wrong with the program itself . It works fairly well .

Duhhh... where have I been? This is the first I've heard of this program. I visited their website. No screen shots there. The program's descriptions didn't really answer my questions, & I don't want to try it until I know a bit more.

Does it include an application firewall? Or is it a one-shot system-hardening program? Also, does it require signatures? If not, and IF the outfit goes belly up, would the program still be useful for at least a couple of years?

Also, is it a competitor with Online Armor or... what?

I would appreciate any info, plus a screenshot or two would be ssssssplendid if someone would be so kind!

    aloha... bellgamin

bellgamin, i believe pre-empt is similar to their previous pivx solution; it is a hardening app. i myself, feel fine using freely available system hardening apps.

Thanks Erik. I had javascript disabled. Having enabled same, the screenshots answered all my questions.

Thanks for that . Do you have any suggestions for other choices?

Could you share your choice of free applications in place of Pre Empt?

    Hello,
Tried this - it's not needed. It's supposed to protect from exploits, but a fully patched system + correct choice of browser will handle these issues marvelously.

Agreed . CST is expensive to me for what it does . As WSFuser suggests , those are excellent choices for free

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions.

Pre Empt "looked " good but a lot of the "fixes" seemed dubious to me.
It said it had fixed services that are already disabled on my system .

Computer Security Tool seems to offer more of the same, fixes for things that are already dealt with.

I will take a look at those in WSFusers list:)

Hmm you should still be able to see the screenshots without javascript. Nothing happens when you click on them though.

You read it right upsaka . They CLAIM that things need to be fixed on your system when you already have done so .

Warning: Stay Away From Pre Empt/PiVX!!

This is not a bad product, and indeedm there may be better more cost effective solutions out there, but...

My license expired on 12/31/05. Their prcing is screwy, but I elected to renew my license one last time..

    Wrong move...

I renewed by credit card last Friday... My credit card has been charged twice.. I have yet to receive my license key, I have not received an answer to 3 emails and there is no response by phone..

Clearly, this company is going under or ownership is being transferred or whatever, but the worst of the worst, they'll take your money and send no product....

Stay far away from thius outfit!!

Re: Warning: Stay Away From Pre Empt/PiVX!!

There are fixes for some things covered by both tools that require more than just disabling the service to secure completely. Don't just take it for granted that because you disabled a service and it still says it's unsecured that it's wrong, or worse: a scam. These security experts just might know something that you don't ;) If you are still convinced that it is reporting in error, try contacting the developer.. it's also possible that there's a bug (every software has them).

Their payment system is through Digital River, if anyone's at fault it would be them. You might try contacting them directly - http://www.digitalriver.com/corporate/contact02a.shtml - if all else fails, you can always initiate a chargeback on the second charge through your bank.

I notice on the 'how does this protection work' screen in Bugoff (Merijn) theres a link to this site under the name of 'Qwik-Fix application' which, quote 'provides protection from dozens of exploits using the same methods as BugOff.'

    Welcome Meriadoc,

QwikFix was in fact the previous name of Preempt.

PreEmpt had its last and only update for 2006 on 1/03/06 right after I renewed my license. Wish I had known sooner that they have quit updating. That was a lot of money for only one update in 7 months. Does anyone know what is going on with them?

I´m surprised that the company still exists. But apparently their product is simply not good enough, it sounded cool in the beginning but there is no future in it.
