True again! Surely getting "Red Carded" plus whatever else the "Suits" deem appropriate will be sufficient.

Now that the WC is finished I can go back to tweaking Jose's marauders at Chelski. With the powerful lineup of players they have....they should at least finish as high as 2nd in their competitions!

Latest blurb was that Man U is gonna hold on to Ronaldo. That should make for some good Theater when he partners up w/Looney Rooney! Except for being a better faker, Christiano kinda reminds me of Brazil's Denilson. Great at dribbling and stepovers 40 yds from goal.....til he loses the ball!

Ps...heard a good one about Ronaldinho and his constant grinning. He is either having fun out there or he's an idiot!

    Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina Demoted

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/14/AR2006071400985.html

ROME -- Juventus was demoted to the second division for match-fixing by a sports tribunal Friday and stripped it of its last two Serie A titles, one of several sanctions aimed at cleaning up the scandal-marred game as the nation celebrates its fourth World Cup title.

Lazio and Fiorentina also were demoted to Serie B, while AC Milan was spared demotion but given a 15-point penalty and won't play in any European competition this season.

    I think this correction:

    Juventus -30 points and demoted
Lazio - 7 points and demoted
    Fiorentina -12 points and demoted
AC Milan -44 points not demoted

I'm sure that everyone will have served their sentence in time to be ready for WC '10 ala WC '82. Paolo Rossi's 3 yr ban was cut short then so he could emerge as a Hero in that one.

    Hi Icy,

I'm happy to see that you have recovered sufficiently to regale us w/your thoughts for the upcoming season. Sheva and Bollock should be enough to keep them in the top ten!

    Muahahahaha!

Oooh!! I'd give anything to see one of my all time favorites one last time. I'm gonna be googling to see if it will be TV'd here in the States.

I'm racking my puny brain right now but I can't come up with anybody who even comes close to his presence! Maybe he was able to inject Van Persie w/some of his majic. Time will tell!

Aaaah...many thanks for that one slammer. As I have enjoyed watching Ryan Giggs play for Man U, it seems like forever, I especially liked Marco's comment that "if Giggs is worth $10 Million then Bergkamp is worth $100 Million!" You can never replace a player like that....you just add someone else to the roster and hope for the best.

    Sad...but playing on, big ed

Oh fiddlesticks....now they went an done it. Materazzi got banned for three two games and fined a pocketfull of Euros for being impolite to Zizu. What a farce!!

I think that Chise was on to something a few posts back. Counselers should be avaiable at all matches in the event that someone's feelings are bruised. Tea breaks every 20 minutes or so and players should be allowed to hold a secret ballot to vote on whether the Ref got the call right or not. Instead of Asst Refs the opposing Mgrs should be able to determine offsides w/o any problem.

What...oh what is happening to the "Beautiful Game"?

    Grrrrr, big ed

And now it's really over and we've got to go on without him...:'(

    DENNIS BERGKAMP TESTIMONIAL

With an impressive display of former & today's heroes, Dennis Bergkamp has said goodbye to the pitch for good.
Oh, it brought back so many great memories.:-*
Both Arsenal and Ajax highlights were relived again.
Big surprise was the entrance of Van Basten and Cruijff on the pitch!
The match itself wasn't much of a real match, but to occaisonally see flickers of brilliance of some of the world's greatest was very sweet. And melancholic too.

Nowadays, there aren't many players who stick to their club for more then a couple of years. I can only think of some: Raul with Real Madrid, Maldini with Milan, and Bergkamp with Ajax & Arsenal.

Dedication, extreme intelligence, charme, modesty, brilliance of play, and LOYALTY are the keywords, when thinking back of Dennis the Menace, the (non-)flying Dutchman.

Farewell and thank you so much, Dennis!

    Ok slammer....help me out here!

Now that Dennis has ridden off into the sunset I'm looking for someone else to be my main man. I've shuffled thru the deck and I find no one that is even close. I can't remember a time when there wasn't at least one Dutchie on my list. I'm not crazy about Robbin and it's too early to tell about Van Persie! I don't have any list at all....Dutch or not! Henri is fun to watch and I always liked Sammi Hyypia as a defender. Of course I always enjoy the trio of Sol, Rio, and JT when they switch to the attack.....for the opposing team! Hee..hee!!

    Gimmie some clues, big ed
