Finally lost patience with Norton SystemWorks 2005 and decided to dump it. Noting the warning about NOD32 clashing with other AV programs removed all traces by using SymNRT and by cleaning registry.

But maybe there's still something left over that I can't see - I keep getting a message "(121) NOD32MOD_WINNT_ENGLISH_INET" during the configuration phase.

Tried installing in safe mode and it seems to install OK and the NOD32 logo shows at startup. But when I try to call up the NOD32 Control Center I get an error box labelled mnod32kui with the message "Error occurred during communication with NOD32 Kernel service".

Suspect it might be unseen Norton remnants messing things up but I'd really prefer to avoid a format and rebuild unless there's no other way. Any suggestions?

    Alex

Thanks Blackspear. Boy that was some thread! Finally got it running but not sure how. Did two things:

A totally gung ho, what the hell, bombing of the registry deleting every mention of Symantec.

Starting the installation program using shift, rt click, run as .. and selecting my account (administrator account) as opposed to just double-clicking the NOD32 instal file. The clue to trying that came from somewhere in the long thead.

Whichever, I'm sure thankful that's over.
