Ad Aware question

I use the free version of Ad Aware which I run about once a week. For the last 6 weeks or so when I scan(smart scan I think, whatever the default option is) I get all zeros on the main scan results but I have been getting between 6 & 10 negligible objects each time. I then quarantine & remove the negligible objects but the next scan there are some back. They say MRU media or MRU applications with things like hkey in the log. Are these dangerous? And if so what can/should I do about them? I also run Spybot which comes up all zeros and I used an online scan from Ewido which also showed nothing at all. I would have thought that if it were a serious issue one or both of these others would have also shown it but that is why I am asking.

IMO, Most Recently Used items(MRU) are nothing to worry about. I always get get 6 or 7 of these too with an Ad-Aware scan and just ignore them. There is no danger there. I used to get a lot more but with applications like CCleaner, i have reduced the number.

It is unfortunate that AdAware may give the impression that MRUs are somehow a 'danger' that needs to be removed. In fact you cannot use your computer without creating details of files accessed etc. etc., which are stored in the Registry as MRUs. Theorectically someone could gain some idea about what you have been using your machine for by studying the MRUs. In that sense it might be considered a 'privacy' issue.

Others just see the MRUs as registry 'junk' that they wish to clear out to be tidy! You can use MRU-Blaster or CCleaner to clear out most of them if you wish. Personally I have configured AdAware not to find MRUs at all because I don't see any point in using AdAware to remove such trivial things.

 

before you do your next scan at the select your scan screen uncheck the negitive thing button. no more of that.

 

Here something you might find interesting, i came across this free download of ad-aware on (edit - direct download link of application with questionable origin removed)
When installed it says its ad-aware se pro and has the ad-watch real time scanner available to use. Now I thought that the pro version was a paid for only version but maybe i was wrong since this comes a from a freeware download site.
I just thought that you might find it useful if you like to use freeware.

 

I purchased Ad Aware with Ad Watch years ago, just me maybe but I find it to be less and less and less useful
