Error: GetDriveLayOut: CreateFile fail

Acronis V8.0

When starting Acronis and letting it shut down WinXP so Acronis starts in stand alone mode, I get error: GetDriveLayOut: CreateFile fail. Access is Denied. It doesn't seem to be anything other than a big bother. It doesn't happen all the time either.

Anyone have an idea what this is all about.

First of all, please make sure you use the latest build (937) of Acronis True Image 8.0. To get access to updates you should first register your software.

If that does not help then please download the latest version of Acronis drivers, install it with disabled logging and see if the problem still persists.

If the problem still persists then enable logging by running the Acronis drivers installation package once again, reproduce the problem and collect the c:\snapapi.log file. Please explain your step-by-step actions which you took that led you to this error. Please also send us a screen shot of the error, if possible. Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

EDIT: I have merged two threads you have started since they were identical. Please try to avoid posting duplicate requests in the future as it makes us as well as other forum members do a double work sometimes.

Fix for Error: "GetDriveLayOut: CreateFile fail"

Here is how to fix the Error "GetDriveLayOut: CreateFile fail !" There seems to be a conflict with Acronis and the Via Chip Set Raid Tool.

If your using the VIA Chip Set Raid Tool and you ever get this error message, try I removing the VIA Raid Tool. That took care of the "GetDriveLayoutFail" error message on my computer. The latest driver for the Via Chip Set is the "via_hyperionpro_v510a.zip" releast 9/2006.
