You can't ask a maker of a product only to use 3rd/another party software..:D

But you can run both at the same computer without a problem!

    :D

I prefer PG over OA. OA activation is a bit troublesome.

With OA you only need to enter a Key (very small compared with PG)

So i don't know what you mean with that, i find both very easy to activate.

    Yes, here: http://www.tallemu.com/forums/

Hi, u can use both but I will suggest one of them due to much overlap.

Do they really overlap?I am using both, the new version of PG and it seems that they are running well together.
Resuming, do i need OA if i use PG?
    Thank you.

"Please have a look on the websites of both products,
to see what the overlap is, and what isn't."

    It is simple ...

    OA has these extra's:

    Mail Filter
    Web Filter
    Cookie Cutter
options for Trusted and UnTrusted Sites
    Remove Spyware
protect and manage Internet Explorer Extensions
    DNS Checker
    Hosts Checker
    And is simple to use

And is also available with a Kaspersky Antivirus engine ..

Hm...The answer maybe yes and maybe no. Whether OA and PG can run together depends on whether you have other security software that may cause conflicts when OA and PG both exists. Other antivirus and antispyware software may cause troubles when they are running along with both OA and PG. So you may need to test on you machine to see if they can run together without problems, along with your other software. ;)

Are you sure about this? The last time I checked, OA did require online activation (with or without a key) when installed - while this may seem a small affair, it does mean that you cannot re-install OA if TallEmu's server goes offline for any reason.

    Hi Guys,

I think you're talking at cross purposes here. OA does have a small key, and activation is seamless. However, there is a communication with the server during the activation process so Paranoid2000 is quite correct.

In the last year, we did have a small amount of downtime due to a complete hardware failure - in such cases, while we were rebuilding everything we took the customer-friendly approach and disabled the activation check.

We now how more hardware, and are bringing more servers online. So, without meaning to tempt fate - such incidents should not happen again.

From OldGuru's posting, OA doesn't seem comparable to PG at all, it sounds more like a multi point firewall system.

PG is not at all like a firewall and if you read the help file we explain how and why, and what exactly we do. PG is mainly a kernel firewall which controls the kernel, PhysicalMemory as well as vital API functions used by rootkits, DLL injection trojans, code injection and other code modification attacks, termination attacks etc etc. The programs control of the OS is very specific and planned over years of malware analysis - TDS existed as far back as when modern trojans first appeared. Incidentally today I got an email about a new rootkit which Blacklight cleans, and on reboot the rootkit is BACK. We planned for this a long time ago by designing a system like PG, to act first and prevent !

PG is strategically positioned to complement many types of other security software, and I suspect OA is another good one to work TOGETHER alongside it. As for overlap, I doubt there is much overlap in actual functionality hence the programs can work well together.

Perhaps the best people to comment are those who do use both together, and so far all sounds good from them ? :)

Thank you for your answer, and i can say that so far i am running both and do not see any problems between them, it seems that they are running very well together. The only thing that i can note is that OA consumes a lot of cpu usage it has spikes that takes cpu to 24% generally each 4/5 seconds.

    Hi mllopes,

OA doesn't do that on it's own. Usually this is because something else is hitting the registry or filesystem, and OA is proxying it, thereby incurring the CPU hit. Are you running Ewido by any chance?

    Mike

EDIT: Apologies to the DCS mods, didn't realise this was in the PG forum when I got the mail update... mllopes - if you wish, please contact my via PM or over at our support forums.

    Hi mllopes,

Sorry, we're not allowed to give 1-2-1 support here - it's especially inappropriate in the ProcessGuard Forum.

If a mod would move the appropriate part of this thread to the right place, it could be a good idea :) And mllopes, please either contact me via PM, or over at the Tall Emu forums - www.tallemu.com.

    Cheers

    Mike

Since the thread has focused decidedly more on topics other than PG directly, moved to a general location as requested....
