    I really think not, eddie.
The whole world is only talking about France and Zidane -and I admit, it would be a fabulous farewell.
But I have a strong feeling the Italians will spoil this party, make their own, and take home the cup.:p

    [MOVE]FORZA AZZURI :D[/MOVE]

    Looking forward to it,

Geez....looks like I'm the only one here picking the Frenchies! Wifey and I will be watching as I have prepared a tray of salami, gorgonzola, and some hunks of crusty bread to be washed down w/a few glasses of vino. I may even cook up a batch of "Freedom Fries"! I invited my Auntie Pasta over for the Prelim.

I considered the defence, mid-field, and offence and gave France an edge up front. Goalkeeping is the key! Buffone has been outstanding :isay: and Barthez  has been adequate. At any level of the game the mental state of the players is a huge factor.

    So....if France doesn't win.....Italy will!! o_O

How's that for a solid prediction?? :shifty:

    Play on, big ed

    Vive la France et Zizou.
I think France will when but I like Italian food and the soccer showed by them as well.
Anyway I think this game is a good final one, both play very well at the end.
Enjoy this game, 32 minutes to go.

What a nice header  Too bad it wasn't on goal :doubt:

It is a shame that the sub for henry missed the pk. But Zidane was outrageous. What a way to leave :ouch:

    Ok...Ok...so maybe I was slightly wrong! :p

Except for Zidane's stupid display the match was quite entertaining! Anyone else notice that there was a lot less blood spilled this WC. Maybe the bad boys of the "Beautiful Game" got the message. After the 1st round there was a minimum of blatant diving, elbows, and horrendous tackles.

Oh well....on to the qualifiers for WC '10!

    Play on, big ed

Ps...I'm eating crow but seeing as Dog favored France too....he can munch on the feathers!!

    Ok Mr Smarty Pants slammer,

There's only about 1450 days left til WC '10. Lord willing, my Daughter and I hope to attend.

Who's your pick in that one?

Ps....my understanding is that one can purchase a package deal. You pick a team for a set price and you get to see all their matches so long as they keep advancing. My Daughter has a kayak so if we start paddling now we should arrive in time for the opening ceremonies. Of course she lives in San Diego so I hope the Panama Canal is still operational when we get there.

Ahhhh :doubt: , these damn penalties!

It is really cruel to lose in such a dice play, but well, life goes on.

Congratulations to Italy, of course :D , and Congratulations to the french team, they were great after all  ...

They offered a superb match against the World champions (at the time of this match), Brazil, that's the picture I'll keep in mind about this tournament.

Well....maybe I did get a teeny bit ahead of myself. I might even want to watch Chelski crash out of the Champs League.....one more time. Unfortunately, with their awesome lineup, they still must play w/only one ball!

Just heared on a local news station:

Matterazi has admitted that he has offended Zidane.
    No details yet.

    Gerard

Update: he didn't say anything about his mother or terrorism related.

    And what if he did.
Honestly I really don't care what's been said in the heat of the game; with adrenaline rushing on such stage, with such interests; I can understand tension being relieved through some bad language or even swearing or calling names.
I don't approve, but provocations happen every weekend on every pitch.

Zidane, as an experienced, professional player and role-model with an audience of millions among which youthful fans, should never have reacted in the way he did.
This also is explanable by the same reasons named above; but this kind of reaction (physically, and deliberately aimed) is to be condemned.

On that very second he brought shame onto himself, his whole team, and his country. Imho from that moment on -despite a perhaps better gameplay- they didn't deserve to win the cup anymore. Justice, yet in a very dramatic way. It will stick to him for the rest of his life, besides his otherwise great achievements, glory and genius carreer.
    And that's a pity.

    Words never 'killed' anyone...Reactions did...

    Just my opinion.

Right on the button...slammer! Sad ... but true! The lip readers are working overtime on this one. Professional athletes are not particularly known for their social graces.

    God save Zidane! Amen.

It is really amazing that the almighty Zidane can almost get away with murder (see hooligans tactics - street fighting techniques) and as time goes by, people are trying to justify such a disgraceful reaction: 'What on earth did Materazi say?'

When Totti's infamous spitting bout cast disgrace on the whole Italian team, nobody ever asked what did the Danish player say to him.

De Rossi was rightly shown red when he elbowed on the face an American player. During the match with France De Rossi was elbowed badly, but alas did'nt bleed.
I counted at least another 3 elbow against the Italians, and the referee did nothing.

I agree with slammer, bad language and heavy swearing happens all the time in every match, professional players are expected to control themselves, and Zidane should have known better.

I think he deserves what he gets: One billion people saw him live as a hooligan.
