I upgraded to 4.0.0.172 today after uninstalling 3.whatever, and everything seems to be working fine except that on reboots, though guard.exe is loaded (according to Process Explorer), there is no systems tray icon, nor can I figure out how to make the icon load. Is that the way it's supposed to be? If I start Ewido manually from the start menu, then minimise it, I do get the tray icon. But it's a hassle to have to do this manually every time.

I randomly experience this same problem on XP-SP2 HE. All I do is use Task Manager, end process ewido.exe, and then restart it.

This systray icon problem is a long standing problem in XP itself and no one has come up with a bulletproof solution as far as I know. However, I don't know if there is a way that program developers can ensure that the systray icon gets "posted". The new ewido currently seems to be the only pgm on my system that is having this problem.

Thanks, siliconeman01. Odd though that this is the first time it's happened - immediately on install of Ewido 4.

The funny thing was that when I first installed version 4 before uninstalling version 3.5, I got the icon on system tray with a cross (or faded colour) because I was not using the real time protection - real guard but I set the Auto Update on ON ... and I guess that's one reason I managed to see the Icon appeared in System Tray albeit faded or with a cross ... can't remember exactly now.

    Caratacus,

Once you start ewido manually, right click on the icon in the tray and make sure that "start with windows" is checked. I have read that this happens from time to time that the "start with windows" does not take.

    Hope this helps,

Yep, the "Start with Windows" has been definitely been checked from the start. Still no icon :(

Please uncheck this option and check it again. Does it reappear after a reboot?

I've tried that a few times. It has not worked. Now I'm watching to see if it updates without the tray icon on (automatic updates is selected on the status page).

This seems to have fixed it: I unchecked "start with windows" then rebooted. Then checked it again then rebooted. The icon's now there. :D Hey! Thanks for your help!

    Hi all,
I have the same problem. ewido latest version does not start with windows even if "start with windows" is checked.
I must launch ewido manualy and minimize into the system tray.

Uncheck, reboot, check start with windows does nothing. I did not have this behavior with the previous (beta version) before purchasing the full version. (latest).
FYI I got into error.txt a lot of following lines:
Error: failed to connect to driver, Value: 00000002, Position: .\SelfProtection.cpp, 19
Error: failed to connect to driver, Value: 00000002, Position: .\SelfProtection.cpp, 19

Error: failed to connect to driver, Value: 00000002, Position: .\SelfProtection.cpp, 19
    ************
Does this can help you to resolve the issue ?

I just had the same problem and your method seemed to have fixed it but obviously it's a bug that hopefully will get sorted soon.

I am inclined to think that this problem with the icon not showing up would not exist if ewido would delay its "check for update" for 3-4 minutes during the reboot process. A system is too busy during the startup period to have a program (ewido) immediately accessing the Internet and downloading updates as other programs are trying to get started up... JMO ;)

i had the same problem, after some research about missing systemtray icons i found that article:http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSystray.htm

among the many ways that the article suggests; the file, systray.reg, solved my problem, now ewido icon is in systemtray as it was suppossed to be.:) :)

    Hi siliconman01,

I completely agree. Seeing that ewido has already "updated it's definitions" while other programs are STILL loading is a little aggravating. I agree that a "delayed" update of 3-4 minutes would be the much better approach for ewido to take regarding updates.....

Yep, JRCrates...not a good way to start up a system.

You might also check the event viewer after a reboot and see if ewido is getting a 30000 millisecond timeout from the service control manager during reboot....thereby, delaying reboot times by 30 seconds.

    START-RUN and type in eventvwr.msc

Click on the System component to view items in the System log. Look for RED alerts during the time your system is rebooting.
