Diskeeper 10.X Premier

I recently installed xp repair pro and ran a registry scan. In the process, it deleted a necessary registry key for diskeeper to defragment files. Unfortunately, the program did not back up the key and i dont know how to get the great program to work Everytime i click on defrag, it just gives me the error message, "can not initialize diskeeper engine." Any help would be appreciated.

Or you can uninstall Diskeeper, then restart your pc, then run Registry cleaner like Registry Mechanic. And have a fresh install of Diskeeper, then restart again and see if its already functioning well.

 

Do NOT trust ANY registry cleaner to AUTOMATICLY fix anything, especially in such a situation.

 

Some programs will left behind "something" that may possibly cause some problems to the system. I may recommend Registry Mechanic 5.2, as it has an option to make system restore point before it "fix" the problems. I think
Registry Mechanic is safe, as I haven't experience any problem with it. Also, TuneUp Utilities 2006 with its registry cleaner utility...also the freeware version EasyCleaner v2, it has registry cleaning feature that I think was also safe.

I only trust these 3 registry cleaner program, I've used them for a long time without experiencing any problems.

Of course, before you decides to delete something with it you have to check it first what it finds and when in doubts then don't include them.

 

Hi, Howard: can I ask you a quick question? Can I use Registry Crawler to search all registry residues of Diskeeper and delete them one by one manually? Is it safe? Thanks.

 

Perhaps, but since Diskeeper shared things with the built-in windows defragger, that might be difficult.

I no longer recall the details of the original problem, but if you cannot Repair windows, have you tried re-installing missing windows components?

There's gotta be some way to get back the windows defragger.
You should ask in a mSFT newsgroup such as micrpsoft.public.win2000.general, or XP equivalent.

 

It definately screwed with the windows defrag regtistry key. The microsoft windows defragmentor will not initialize at all either. Anyone know where to find or locate the registry key on the net? The help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The info is very helpful, but the only problem is that the windows xp cd that i do have has been installed several times and the validation code states that it cant be installed anymore. Any chance there is just a registry key that needs to be placed in the correct folder? Again, the help was really great and much appreciated.

 

Repair entails using the Recovery Console.

Every user should own a book such as Mucrosoft Press' Windows XP Inside/Out which covers most of these questions.

Also built-in Help describes use of repair/recovry console.
