Which version of True Image do I need?

I have a client that in their basement has several computers and a server. They are running a domain. They need imaging software installed on 1 of the computers to back up that PC's hard drive to an external one. Which version of True Image do I need? Will the Home/Home Office version work or do I need the corporate workstation one?

as you already mentioned.....you only have one PC to backup.

As long as this PC is not the one with the server OS you need the home version. If you wan't to backup the server, you need the server version. The Enterprise/Workstation Version has many benefits in a corporate environment where you want to back up many PCs/Servers remotely.

Ok are you 100% certain the home edition will install on a machine that is logged into a Domain?

If your client wants to only backup the one PC to a storage location in the domain, than Acronis True Image 9.0 Home will work.

If your client wants to backup all systems in the domain from one central location, then I recommend Acronis True Image Workstation. This version of the product allows you to remotely install and schedule backups on desktops and laptops in the network from one central location. If you want the same functionality to backup servers, then you will need to purchase a license for Acronis True Image Enterprise Server.

If your client wants to backup all systems in the domain and does not mind going to each computer to install Acronis True Image and schedule tasks then the Acronis True Image 9.0 Home will do or if this system is a server, then Acronis True Image Server for Windows will work.

The Home edition is not sufficient for networks, as you cannot do an IMAGE backup of a network drive.

 

I was certain that I read that the only thing that is 100% certain is death and taxes. So I feel your question is asking the impossible.

Please note that as cblanchet mentioned depending on the operating system you use on the local computer you might need to use defferent versions of Acronis True Image. Such as Acronis True Image 9.0 Home and Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation are compatible with Windows XP Home and Professional operating systems including Windows XP SP2. Other supported operating systems are Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Service Pack 6, Windows Me and Windows 98.

Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced server, Windows 2000 Server and Windows NT 4.0 Server are supported by server versions of Acronis True Image: Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows and Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server

Using Acronis True Image 9.0 Home or Acronis True Image 9.1 Server for Windows you will be able to back up data stored on the network shared drive. Also you will be able to place the image to the network shared drive. While using Acronis True Image 9.1 Workstation or Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server you will be able to backup entire hard drive/partition of the networked hard disk drive.
