hi, i want to watch a video i downloaded. it's an .avi (i would have thought XP would come with .avi support  )

can someone show me what i can use, please? i only need .avi support, but if there are any *really* good codec packs, i might get that. thanks.

I've tried many media players and the best all-round solution I've found is the K-Lite Codec Pack which you can get from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

Of the 3 versions available, the Standard is the one I went for and I never seem to have problems with any media files. AVI files play really well.

Combined Community Codec Pack is also something that is widely recommended. If there's something K-Lite doesn't play, CCCP will.
