Seemingly at random, and only occasionally, the statistics stay at zero in the welcome tab. The network adapter is listed and checked on the option page.

This problem started only recently, after months of using LnS, and there is no way of knowing it's happening except for opening the GUI and looking. When this happens, a ShieldsUp security scan indicates that essentially all ports are closed, not stealthed.

When I untick "Internet filtering enabled" and immediatedly re-tick it, the statistics begin to function normally.

I use LnS 205p3, Phantom's v6 ruleset (modified), winxp sp2, cable connection, Motorola 5100 modem. I'm quite certain that no malware is at work.

I've lost confidence that my connection is actully being filtered by LnS at any particular time. I really like this firewall and want to continue using it. Any suggestions as to what the problem is and how to repair it will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

When the problem occurs, could you open the console windows (from the options page), copy/past the content of the windows and send it to us ?

    Thanks,

    Frederic

    Frederic,
Thank you, I will do so. In the meanwhile, I reinstalled LnS; I'll see if that cures the problem.

This post is just to let those interested know that while the problem I posted has not yet been fixed, the developer has been responsive. Frederick and I have communicated via email and he is doing his best to diagnose the problem and get my installation of LnS working properly. The attention he is giving this is admirable and appreciated.

I chose to uninstall LnS because I was concerned that my pc was not being reliably protected; however, Frederick yesterday suggested a couple of possible fixes, so I intend to reinstall LnS in the coming days and will post how it goes. In the meantime, I'm trying Comodo; it seems to be a good product - not that I have any qualifications to say one way or another.

Thank you Frederick for your efforts.

    ...continuing this discussion with myself...

After some suggestions from Frederick, the problem has been isolated to LnS in the service mode. When run as a process, LnS functions properly on my set up. Frederick has informed me that the service starting mode has some known problems with Fast User Switching, or logoffs+logins after the initial login; however, neither of these is applicable to my situation. Also, I am sure that my installation of the service had been done as instructed. So, the cause remains somewhat of a mystery.

In any event, I have reinstalled LnS using the process mode, and all is well. While I would prefer running it as a service for the increased safety and features, I am satisfied as is.

Again, Frederick's excellent attention and help are appreciated and deserving of high praise.
