Infinity, it probably slipped your mind, but Jason's summer is coming to an end. I would not be surprised if it isn't getting a bit chilly there in Australia.

Alpha is a few days away still, so here are a few more screenshots showing some of the new functionality from the main interface. This screenshot shows the new status window on the Home tab along with the changes to the component information. The info which was previously displayed on the Home tab (Alerts, Rules, etc) is now moved off to the Alert tab, along with other useful information which has been added there.

The new status describes in more detail any error messages and the state of how GSS is interacting on your system. In this particular screenshot I have run GSS on a system which doesn't have any other files installed, so it tells me all of the critical files which are missing. It also tells you the state of the driver and it's now "very layered" approach to protecting your system, such as if the networking component failed to initialize in the driver for some reason. The components are now shown in a "disabled" state with no way to interact with them until verification and driver communication has begun. I have removed profiles due to the way the new design means the GUI has little control over how GSS actually works. So now a simple checkbox appears allowing you to either disable or enable AppDefend or RegDefend once the GUI has connected successfully to the driver.

This screenshot is from the preferences window. Themes now update themselves correctly (a major GUI overhaul to simplify this aspect) and font family/height can now be changed. This basically allows the end user to select their favourite font, and also adjust the size of the font if for some reason some of the GUI isn't displayed correctly on their system. People who have "large fonts" enabled can now adjust GSS to fit the interface correctly, and people who have eye sight problems can increase the height to make for easier reading. This works across the entire GSS interface and without restarting.

    Jason,

Can you say if this or a future version, can have the feature to detect if some service or driver installed is stoped?

    Regards

This can already be stopped from "permanently" being stopped/removed with RegDefend. As to dynamic stopping, it is possible I will add it for generic or definable items, but I am definitely adding it for GSS itself.

Jason, thank you for the screenshots. They make me want to have it installed so I can put it through it's paces and see first hand how far you have brought GSS.

    Take care.

    nice ;)

Does this mean that you have completly disable any Profile feature of gss ?
If so, I quite does not understand this.

Does GSS load it's rule information from the profile on the disk or it cache everything on it's startup ? If it read from the file then a simple file-swap from default to chosen profile will do the trick. If there is a cache then it would need to be rebuilt.

Or you mean that as the GUI is quite "nowhere" (to use your own word) it can 't really do file manipulation ?

    Hi f3x,

Previously up to this point in time gss.exe handled most of the administration of the rule files and things of that nature, which now isn't the case. It is of course possible to still support "profiles" in the newer method I am using, it is just more complicated to support, and also will eventually lead to issues with having to secure unused profiles from modification.

Most people rarely used the profile feature because it was undocumented, which also complicated that aspect of the interface for these people. Either way, with importing/exporting rules the need for profiles isn't quite so important I feel.

I forgot myself to mention that I was talking only about the AppDefend, and not Ghost Security Suite....

    Hi VaMPiRiC_CRoW

Well... you should adapt yourself to the fact there will be less and less diference between appdefend and gss as appdefend is part of gss.

    To Jason:

Profile was good for testing. I have faith that there will be better solution than profiles. Since the first contact i had with GSS i wanted something i described as "Instalation mode" or some way to make temporay rules available only until next reboot or until a process end. This is important to prevent garbage rules.

Edit for those wondering what is this "instalation mode" read

    Hi f3x,

But I don't use RegDefend, and don't want to use it...
    It's not for me...

    I only care about AppDefend.

    Jason,

Do you still think to make a free version of AppDefend with limited features?

If you have something like ssm with all module integrated ? Would you like to detach a module ? If you dont use it then keep it disabled. End of story.
This discution happened 1000x times and at the lastest new there's more in favor of integration that split. Just look at all the other suites out there.
GSS works like an optional suite and the penality of having regdefend installed is really small.

Maybe at worst Jason will let use hide componment we do not want if we register another one. It's pretty much the closer you can have of having appdefend only.

I confess: I'm sorry! didn't meant it like it could have sounded! .. And I'm not a Hooligan lol ... however that crazy Dutchman didn't do bad either! Congratz to you too (Australia)

yeah lets talk about rule creating and "child-parent process rule-creating control" .. regarding GSS ...

.. Jason, What About It? Cause in my eyes (imho) .. this is one of the missing links .. lets make this beaty perfect! ..

    :D

I already disabled the RegDefend since I installed GSS...

I only asked to Jason if he could add that feature to AppDefend, and he already replied, so...
