According my readings NOD32 has the best heuristics, but I always wonder how people come to that conclusion. :)

Em, where is KAV, where is Panda!?!?

Well , if we need to be honest , neither KAV's nor Panda's heuristics are good . Let's make a difference between heuristics and behaviour analysis. Both Panda and KAV have very good behaviour analyzers

NOD32 and Avira and F-Prot are coming soon in the top. :)

AVira, then VBA32. (perhaps as close as a tie imo)

I wonder why no one is mentioning VBA32. After all it placed just 2% behind NOD32 with 56% on the latest retrospective test at av-comparatives. It seems like them have great hueristics.

I don't know about the others but I can tell you why I don't mention it . Because I have tested it just once and it failed , too poor in my opinion . I don't believe the statistics too much but what I have seen with my own eyes. :D :D :D

Well I can respect that. I however have had just the opposite experience with VBA32. I once had a piece of malware that was not detected with any other AV (signature or hueristics) but VBA32 detected it. So I feel very safe with it. (I have since had the signature added)

Well , I agree with you and it can be a long conversation , it depends on the test you did and the test I did so , no problem:D

Actually heuristics based on signatures are the future (some sort of aggressive variant detection)... Some AVs already use such technology (NOD32, VBA32, BitDefender, DrWeb and F-Prot are just few)

My experience with VBA32 mirrors yours, it detects tons of stuff other programs don't in my experience, and if not for a couple of issues it had recently, I'd still be using it.

One time (1st post) it was an inquiry. And the second was right before I posted mt question. It was posted while I was typing. :)

When it comes to heuristics, I would say worm detection is the most important thing (where NOD32 is far ahead the rest of the bunch). I guess most of the AV heuristics mentioned here have their strengths and weaknesses, it's up to you to decide which "category" you consider the biggest threat (and therefore the most important to be protected from).

Worms are poop in the ocean, even though every idiot can mass spam them. Bots and trojans are the most important thing today.

Technically just posting it as an inquiry is still "mentioning" it. "Voting" for it..that's different. ;)

OK, giving not all people can type fast..guess I'll can give ya the 3 minute time difference with the second mentioning of it.

Although I fully agree with this , worms are still big threat for the companies

One shouldn't rely on heuristics alone, however good it may be. It is prone to false positives whereas a signature is more definitive. Combining the two is a good idea though. Proactive defences need updating as much as signatures because malware authors are always seeking to improve their methods of infection.
