    First thoughts on 3666?

Has anyone noticed any significant difference between TI9 Home 3633 and 3666?

Any hardware improvements or GUI improvements that have changed your lives ?

    Thanks

OK, thanks Acronis, I just downloaded 3666 Home version and at least the file version stamp shows in Explorer as 9.0.0.3666.

I tried to do a Restore from Windows, and after the reboot and "Starting Acronis Loader" message, all I get is a blank screen. I went through this twice.

Using the Acronis TI Workstation 3666 bootdisk, however, worked.

Needless to say, I've restored back to my system when it had 3633.

Moral of story; never use a version with 666 in it. lol

The last update that worked properly for me was 9 (2323). Restoring a system image was taking 5 times the normal time.

Now with 3666 I have found a slight improvment in the time it takes to make a system image and a big difference in the time it takes to restore. Updates after 2323 were taking 50 mins to an hour. Now it takes 12 minutes.

    Longview,

How much data are you backing up? Mine seems to take forever since the last few updates. I have an 80GIG drive with 14GIG of files (windows, data etc) and backing up to a external USB2 hard drive (7200RPM). To do the backup and verification together it takes me most of 55 minutes. Before the upgrades it was taking 30 minutes. Just wondering if this is typical or long. I have not tried a restore yet.

    Thanks,

On an old P4 2.4 75 gig ide drives, 512 meg of Ram - Using 9 (3666) 7 gig of operting system takes 6-7 mins to make an image and 12 mins to restore. with other updates it took 50 to 60 mins to restore. I keep data on a second partition and almost never bother to verify

I download TI 9.0 v3666 last night,I checkedthe version number it said v3633. I though I was the one who made the misstake. The first time I installed v3666 I installed over the top. I then checked the version number, it said v3633. I though I messed up, so I uninstalled TI 9 (3633) this time checking add/remove, used three different registry cleaners and reinstalled what I thought was TI 9.0 (3666). Checked the version again...Dang, messedup again. So I did the whole complete procedure again. Same result 3633. By this time it is getting late, two am. I thought about coming here and starting a thread, by then my eyes are closing. So I decide to go to bed, and sort it out in the morning.

Well I just downloaded the TI Home 9.0 3666 update for the third time. Now the file's a couple meg's larger, and the version says build 3666. Haven't installed it yet. Will post back if I find any issues.

Well #)(&$)*(#*& !!! I downloaded build 3666 this morning, AFTER Acronis supposedly fixed the SNAFU, verified the version shows as 9.0.0.3666 in the file properties with Windows Exporer, and the file I got is 732 KB SMALLER than my build 3633 file. Last night it was 1 KB larger.

    NOW it's a couple megs larger o_O

What the h*** is going on here ?

Acronis Quality Control is probably the worst I have ever run into in my 16+ years in the IT field.

Why don't they say on their website that you can't use Universal Restore on Dynamic Diskso_O?? FALSE ADVERTISING!

I installed a clean install of v3666. Created the Boot-Up CD, and made a Back-up to a DVD+R (Taiyo Yuden) disc.
I wanted to see if the DVD function was fixed. Yes it is!! It now reads the disc just created. So, I thought I'd go through with the Restore from the DVD. I get to the Boot screen, and it picks up the DVD and reads the file on it. But however, when I went through the process, I got a error message. Something about "Cannot read Data from Disc". So, i exited out. Windows tried to reboot, but it was gone!!
The computer would NOT boot up because Acronis wiped the C:/ Drive off. I had to reload the Boot Disc, and go through the settings again, and HAD no choice but to delete the partitions, and create a new one named (E:/). Then finally, it read the disc ..and restored it.

If this was the first time I ever used Acronis, and didn't know that much about it...I would've thought the disc was messed up. Would have been stuck with a computer with no OS on it, and would've had no choice... but to Reinstall Windows XP just now!!!

So, I'm not quite sure the DVD Bug is gone or not!

Life can be so unfair. Normally I wouldn't dream of burning direct to DVD - I would make a system or data image to another partition and then burn.

But with all the fuss about burning direct I thought I'd give it a try with 9 (3666) and you've probably guessed already it was all very straight forward and rather dull. Using and old BenQ 1620 and an 8X Verbatim ( didn't want to waste a good disk) it took a few minutes longer to make an image than would normally be the case. Restoring from DVD took 36 minutes rather than the normal 10 to 15 but the main thing is nothing went wrong.

Can't see myself ever doing it this way again but its nice to know that 3666 is a move in the right direction.

Did you uninstall version 3633 before installing 3666 or install 3666 over 3633?

I installed 3666 over the previous build and it seems to be working fine.

uninstall previous build and then install...installed over previous buildo_O?
working...not working and apparently everything in between...
too many conflicting stories as far as security is concerned...
    I'm not amused or comfortable...
Whoever allowed any of this to occur needs serious training/retraining.
It just cost them 30 licenses...I'm Not waiting for the next goof up...

I downloaded Bld 3666 and installed over 3633. Bld 3666 then fouled up the restore option (F11) during bootup and replaced it with "Non system disk: press any key to continue". Bootup will not proceed until any key is pressed.
Uninstalled/reinstalled older version still did not rectify the problem. I have since uninstalled the prog with the inconvenience (press any key) being present permanently on my XP Pro. Tried cleaning traces of True Image in the reg did not help either.

Does anyone have this problem or could anyone offer assistance to restore the "restore option" or deleting it from the bootup screen.

    1. Re-install TrueImage. Build 3666 should be fine for this.
    2. Activate the Starup Recovery manager.
(This will create a SecureZone, but you can select a small size.)
    3. Reboot
    4. If you want to keep these features, you are done.
Otherwise, deactivate the Startup Recovery manager and uninstall the SecureZone.
    5. If you no longer want TI, uninstall TrueImage.

    That should eliminate the problem.

Attn: Menorcaman - your opinion of the new version of TI 3666o_O

I always wait for your opinions, Menorcaman on the issues before I waste my time upgrading! :)

I'm still perfectly satisfied w/version 3567 as it does what I need. DVD burning in my opinion is so trivial an issue for Acronis to be issuing new versions to attempt to appease the DVD burning crowd, and in their attempts to do so, the program seem to get screwed up in some new fashion each time, in my opinion.

My word to the DVD backup storage addicts: Buy an external hard drive, or at least install a second storage drive in your computer and use these devices for your TI images. They are more secure, always 10 times more trustworthly (if you know what you are doing) and faster (not worth mentioning how much!) than a DVD. I forgot, an external hard drive is heavier & slightly more bulky than few DVDs, but surely you can find the space and the strength to handle one. Play with the DVD burner that you have for some other purpose (movies?). This is only my opinion, but I stand by it.

Now, back to my initial topic once more: Can you, Menorcaman , give your opinion of the newer versions since v.9.0.3567? I really respect your research and testing much better than the Acronis 'in house' testers. The 'in house' testers need to go back to 'test' school in my honest opinion. They really do suck. In reality they depend on this forum to beta test all the issues, as here is where the problems show up. Magically they miss the Acronis tester's learning curve somehow. o_O

    Re: First thoughts on 3666?

You can try running them form the Windows Task Scheduler. That seems to work okay and the backups afterwards do verifiy okay.

It's been reported that task run with 3666 seem to run okay but don't verify.
