Still working on the needed website changes, but the software is self describing enough for everybody here I'd say. ;)

    I have paid version 1.6.5.

***Will version 1.6.5 update to version 2 automatically, or do I need to download & install the new version manually?

***If I am to install version 2 manually, do I first need to uninstall the old version, or may I install over the old version?

We will wait a few before days we upgrade all version 1.x users to version 2.0 just to ensure that possible left bugs are fixed and the upgrade process runs smoothly. Of course we will continue to offer signature updates and support for version 1.6.5 until all 1.x users are upgraded. This applies to a-squared free, too by the way ;).

If you want to do the upgrade yourself just uninstall 1.6.5 and install a-squared anti-malware 2.0 :).

@Andreas - I did the upgrade per your instructions. It went fine. I did notice that the Guard didn't load at startup, even though the block to tell A² to do that was checked by default. I unchecked that block, then rechecked it again, & THAT did the job. A² now loads at startup.

I notice that A² now occupies nearly 52MB of ram. That's a LOT!

I found that the HiJackFree GUI did not draw itself correctly on my PC which was using large fonts at 120dpi. Some of the buttons on the left and the top portion were missing (e.g. Others button). The A2 Security Center GUI did display correctly though. To be fair, quite a few popular programs out there also did not handle large display fonts well.

    Thanks.

A2 Guard using 42MB of ram & A2 scan another 50MB. Starting A2 Security Center uses another 45MB. Is that to be expected? I'm new to using this program & that's alot on my older computer.

There is still a lot of debugging code included in a-squared we haven't removed yet. We expect minor problems with version 2 and therefore left it in the first public release. The memory usage will drop significantly as soon as we remove the debugging code.

I installed the trial of the Pro version. It is running alongside Ewido 4.0 which came out today. I do not know if they will both run OK at the same time.

I use the older free version...can I install the latest free version over the older version?

or the latest version 2 only available in a full paid and the free version was still the same?

Why is it that I can't update my A-Squared free on my limited account when surfing the net?

There currently is no a-squared free version 2. Only the paid version was updated.

Exactly. In the past a-squared free and paid shared the same codebase. The new free and paid version will still share the same scan engine but use a diffrent UI. We removed all non useable options etc. . You can take a look at a-squared free version 2 here:

    http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/

It will be more or less a stand alone version of the webscanner.

    By the way:
You might be glad to hear that we will drop the registration to use a-squared free.

I guess cause you limited account doesn't have write access to your a-squared directory ;).

So A-Squared Free is the Same as A-Squared paid? but the only thing is that the paid has realtime protection right?

Wrong. As I said ... they used to be the same cause they shared the same codebase in version 1.x. With 2.0 they are completely seperate products.

Take a look at http://www.emsisoft.de/en/info/a2/compare.htm for a complete comparison ...

Everytime i scan on the new version it crashes on me?

    why? i don't know

i update it and scan and it crashes

I think i will wait for the free version to come out. As for scan and detection there is not alot of diffrence but if there is i will maybe purchase paid version but with realtime protection disabled.

Well is this a known thing? that the scan crashes?

i only have KIS 6.0 in realtime protection

i don't need the realtime protection of A-squared right as it does not give extra protection right from KIS 6.0?

Does it always crash at the same file? What error message is given?
