What do you make of this

To your honest opinion, what do you make of this product. Its an AV called Magic Bullet, but have a good read of the link I've attached. I think there is quite alot of false statements in it.

A non Symantec program with identical interface as Norton Antivirus 2006?
It's a smelly fishy just because of this imo...

 

Magic Bullet, isn't that what Dr. Solomon's use to call their rescue disk?

 

Well if i remember correctly, Magic Bullet is a food blender from Top Shop (some TV shop). Lol

Personally speaking it would not bother me if my AV had or didn't have animations but I suppose it would look a bit groovy

When you say scanning 300% than other manufacturs which ones ? Yes I've used fast and slow scanners, currently using NOD32 and have found it to be one of the fastest scanners out there. And fast scnning is not only the main thing, better and stronger detection is more important really.

Also I've noticed that some of the Magic Bullet picts look a bit like Nortons Internet Security 2006, does this scanner use Nortons engine or which engine does it use ?

Also is this product a standalone Antivirus or a all in one Security Suite ?

Where does this product originate from ?

you can safetly bet it doesn't use Nortons engine. They say they are located in the U.S. but the picture of their staff looks as if they are of asian decent.

the magic Flash from the home page is the only thing that takes your attention. They don't even have a detailed description of the AV

And very strange....on the latest threast page they show Bloodhound.Exploit.61.
Isn't Bloodhound the name for heuristically detected viruses by Norton?

And it was discovered on 25.03.06 and NOD32 detects it from 24.03.06.

Are you sure they are all using similar technology? I don't think so...and about many FPs take for example NOD32 or even Symantec. hey don't produce many FPs...and there are many others.

Less capable Norton, McAfee and other manufactures ? ? ?
Do you think you are the best and all other AV companies are "garbage"? I"m very interested to see a reiable AV test between you and those other AVs.

 

I think it is strange that they are a privately "HEALED" company, Since they are all M.I.T. Grads, I presume that means they can speak and write English and perhaps they were all ill and were healed by a private doctor, or is it they have not reached the IPO point yet? I am not sure but it smells of a ripoff scam if you ask me or worse.

 

So you need people with PhD to rip off Symantec's GUI? Interesting. Smartest? LOL.

Well, it is nice that you do use your custom scan engine.....But as for the "others", actually the other AV engines are quite different from each other in quite a number of ways - scanning algorithms, unpack engine, heuristics, signatures, update algorithm, malware removal algorithms and a lot of other things differ amongst various AV engines. And you don't need to work for an Anti-Virus manufacturer to know this stuff.

Although it is nice to market a product via any means possible, eBay is normally not considered the best method of selling software, and that is probably why the product is dubiously looked upon by various users here. Nevertheless, its not the medium of purchase, but rather the reliability that matters, so I won't complain on this.

However, calling Symantec and McAfee as 'less-capable' is IMO not very professional, and neither is providing the info on Symantec not paying taxes. You work for a professional company, and it is very unprofessional of you to openly bash other competitor's products, especially the market leaders, when in fact you have copied one of the market leader's user interface.

However, it is good that another vendor has entered the AntiVirus market. The best way to gain trust and marketshare is by having some awards, which is why I recommend that you get Magic Bullet tested by AV-Comparatives, Virus Bulletin, Checkmark or some other popular AntiVirus testing group. The awards will speak more than a million words on just how good your product is.

 

M.B.A.V., we have some very knowledgable members here and this is a well known security forum. This is not the place to come and make unsubstantiated claims as we just don't go for that here. We deal in results and facts, not claims that are obviously contrived or just flat out falsehoods. Submit your product to a reputable av testing site such as www.Av-Comparatives.org and then come back with the results and then we will see what kind of product you have. Although it is very suspect since you couldn't even design your own GUI, You had to rip off Norton av's.
