I just did my first "backup" of files and emails and don't see what I expected to see.

I've been using Genie Pro for backups. When it does one, the files and folders appear on my backup drive (G:) in the same form that they exist on my C: drive; I can look at the backup files just as easily as I look at my regular files.

My TI backup is just G:AcronisBU.tib, and when I double click on it, folders and files don't appear -- the True Image program opens, and I'm asked where I want to place them (recovery?).

I've had TI for several years, but I've only made two full images; I've never used it for regular backups. Am I confusing "backup" with "image"?

A disk/partition image can be mounted/plugged and explored with Windows Explorer just like a real drive. You cannot, however, do that with a Files/Folder image. To see inside, you need to step through the restore process. You’ll get to a point where you select the things you want to restore. At that point you can explore what’s in the image file. Then cancel out.

I've tried this. The only thing I'm able to select to restore is AcronisBU.tib on my backup drive (G:). There's no folder or file icon in front of it. I see no way to select things within that AcronisBU.tib to restore. I get all the way to "Proceed" without seeing a way to explore what's in that image.

When stepping through the Restore Data wizard you should come to a “Contents Selection” window (I think it’s the 4th window). This is an Explorer type pane that displays the image contents of a Files/Folders backup.

    Hello NoGuru,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

You can find the detailed instructions on how to restore individual files and folders from both file-based backups and disk\partition images in chapters 6 and 11 of Acronis True Image 9.0 User's Guide.

If you are still unable to restore individual files and folders from the beforehand created backup archive please let us know which exact steps\actions described in the above mentioned User's Guide you cannot understand\perform. We will certainly try to help you.

    Thank you.
