AntiVir with new heuristics ahead

you could download the installation package from freeav.com . the size is about 10mb, which is equle to the download size of upgrade. After you install it, you only need to get the latest vdf.

 

Absolutely no issues updating for me today, and speeds are averaging back up to 200-400K. The issue, at least for me (Premium Customer), have been resolved.

I do agree though, they need to at least triple their traffic capacity in the future for big updates like this. Lets hope more people convert to premium, so they have the funds to do this.

Frankly, I wish Antivir would go to a commerical-only product, to alleviate much of the free-ware complainers. Certainly the product now appears to be well beyond the phase where it needs to be free because of shortcomings in abilities like the other free AV's. Of course, as always, my opinion.

Alas, the mirrors outside of Germany you find on www.free-av.com are not updated yet to 6.35 so it doesn't help to install them as you still must download the new huge antivir0.vdf.

 

No, not at all. AntiVir is welcome among free antiviruses, but if they'd only fix these ever lasting update problems. I don't care if it's updating at 10KB/s as long as it updates. But not being able to update at all, well thats a big issue. So i really hope they'll solve this once and for all so i could once again recommend AntiVir as free AV solution along avast!...

 

I agree on this one, hopefully we'll see some positive progression in the near future. Maybe they should make a little talk with the avast! guys, they have everything under control regarding update servers...

 

I just downloaded and installed the latest version here, then did an update which was small (about 400k) fairly quickly. No problems here in the U.S. to speak of. However, I did notice that the download speed counter thing was not working right, it said 0-2k/sec when in fact it was tooling along much faster than that. So I'm not sure what that's about.

However, I have to agree that anyone in the AV business ought to ensure that their update servers work well. That seems like a no brainer to me...

I totally agree that a 'download manager' is need for these large slow updates. This is my second night (Europe) trying to get this update. I am a slow dial up so a 'download manager' like the Adobe one would be great. I got up to 86% download before the connection dropped out . very frustrating. It is now 00:30 Central Euro and the down load is starting again. Fingers crosssed.

If I could just pick up the missing bits of the earlier download ... I could go to bed .

Oh .. I noticed that about 4-5 MB of the update are for the 0 vdf file. Surely this could have been done sometime later !

Do these new VDF files work with Antivir 6? Or has anyone tested these VDFs with AV 6? I really do need an answer to these questions.

I updated AV-PEC with no problem at 3PM Pacific time (GMT -10). Speed was 33kps.

Seems to be fixed. My avgnt.exe is now at 4-5mb ram usage rather than the 20mb previously...

 

I have had more frequent updates with antivir than others,includeing nod.For me in England ,on broadband i have no problems.Maybe users should use whats best for them.Users that cant update must also realise that those that can,and like and trust the software,find posts that slag it ,adviseing people not to use it because of not being able to update it ,is crap.It must be for many people the update issues were fixed ,apart from the odd large one ,like just now.If it isnt ,then choose another free one,that way you will be bothered less with updates and upgrades,even more so at weekends.

Kerodo, what's your avguard at, mine is always around 20mb is this normal?

 

WIN XP system;

avguard.exe; 38MB
avgnt.exe; 2.3MB
sched.exe; 1.3MB.

 

That's what it hovered around on my pc, so that's normal.

blackcat, 38mb is a bit much is it not, here was me thinking that 20-22MB was high for avguard.exe?

 

hello mine is 11.8 (xp home sp2) antivir premium

 

My avguard is hovering around 21.8mb here, seems steady between 21-22. I know it used to be lower, around 17mb or so, but I've seen it rise slowly over the past 6 months or so with new releases. But I can't complain..

 

Likewise, now 20.7MB for AvGuard and 6.3MB for Avgnt. Have everything set to max and high.

 

I had no problems updating the free version. This is the most improved AV by far.

If only you can get rid of that damn "Luke Filewalker"
name. I really hate Star Wars =p
