I thought that there was going to be one...

It would sort of make sense from the stand point of not having an AV competing with a firewall to do what sometimes seems to be the same types of monitoring. In other words, could less resources do the same job if the two tasks were combined, and is there such a thing being considered.

I was especially curious because firewalls are right up there with AV's for resource consumption, and it's getting harder and harder to tell what is hype and what isn't with firewalls. And also conflicts are a concern. I've recently installed Sunbelt-Kerio but have not used it long enough to know how well I like it.

I took a look at that post, and I have to admit I was fooled to into thinking that it might have be released as well.

Wish I had a firewall that only used the same resources that NOD uses.

    Hello,

ESET plans to release a software-based firewall.

Information about test cycles, feature sets, availability, pricing, evaluation copies and so forth will be provided as soon as it is available.

    Regards,

as opposed to a hardware firewall? ;) (actually thatd be cool)

or did u mean application-based? well at least itll be an alternative to ZA as many firewalls now are rule-based.

    Hello,

I am used to saying "software-based firewall" to describe programs such as Agnitum's Outpost Firewall, Sunbelt Software's Kerio Personal Firewall, Zone Lab's ZoneAlarm and other security programs which are installed onto a consumer PC to secure and monitor its network connections, as opposed to a "hardware-based firewall" manufactured by Cisco, Juniper Nokia, SonicWall and so forth which are discreet devices typically connected to networks at their ingress/egress points (or even where they bridge internally between different departments, divisions and so forth).

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

You mean it can be purchased as a separate product, or only as part of Eset Security Suite?

Will there also be a stand-alone AntiSpam product?

    Hello,

How the forthcoming products will be sold (e.g. stand-alone or bundled with other software) has not yet been decided. As soon as those decisions have been made, they will be posted here and elsewhere.

    Regards,

I really don't do well with firewalls, but it might be fun to start with one from the very start. I can be part of the confused masses!
