Weigh in on whether to be Paypal Verified

    Depends on who and where your purchases are made. I personally used PayPal when purchasing through Ebay, but not very often. I usually do my homework before making a purchase and verifying the history of sellers.

    You are at risk if you use your main bank line. Create a seperate account descreatly for PayPal, once you finalize the purchase close the account, open another when needed. PayPal does not need your main bank account regardless of what they say! They tried to pull that line on me, but the FCC got a bit upset when I notified them of this.

    PayPal being a nusance? Please.... *cough* YES...! Very much so, as the later, I routinely close my bank accounts and credit cards associated with PayPal after each purchase or a set period of time. They, PayPal, have decided to religiously call and email me stating that I "NEED" to update my account information for security reasons...... BRB have to make some coffee and walk the dog..... Ok, i'm back, if I am not conducting any transactions there is no need for my busines/personal institutional information, my accounts are closed no transactions can process! Your, PayPal, service holds money to be collected, it's not an institution. I tell them that i'm more secure than not updating my account information when it's inactive, not being used, however, they have some obscured idea that it's still a security risk with closed account information against my PayPal account. To say the least I told them I would update the information when and if I used the service again, yet it still boggles them. Talk about talking to a bleached, bleached blonde red head (no offense to anyone) or an iron wall. They still call, thanks for reminding me I should file a complaint with the FCC again.

    Ha, ha, ha!

    So it's not just me? When I changed my password - TO BE MORE SECURE - The started emailing me every day for 2 , 3 weeks or so. I glanced at the first one and deleted the rest without opening. It's an obvious fishing trip. Screw them!

    Reminds me of Sprint (apologise for going off subject), but when you first call Customer Service, they ask for your password......... ok, this password is the same exact passphrase you access you online account information. Yet, if you need to make a call to Customer Service, but in a public place and no privacy, that information can be obtained by anyone, what if you loose your phone or it's stolen from someone overhearing the conversation, well, you just compromised everything, by the fault of Sprint's arrogance.

    I refuse to give out my password, even when I am in a private location, it's not their right to know my password or anyone's, most of the time they refuse to help, good for them, but they will never hear me say my password.

    It seems not many people complain about it, but their privacy policy and the concern of security is absurd.

    Keep away from PayPal. If you have a problem with a Seller, they will not help you. They are very hard to deal with and very rude in their behavior.

    I would not touch them with a 10 foot pole.

    I have used Paypal for years and also balance my checkbook monthly. nothing weird has happened. also recvd a lot of phishing email, deleted them all.

    also, if you think paypal won't help w/ sellers, here is my example:

    sold my sister's watch on ebay. winning bidder paid $950. i ship it off. winning bidder doesn't like the watch, says it has scratches, which is BS. they dispute with paypal and Paypal tells me they are shipping it back to me. i receive the watch and believe there are small scratches on it that were not there before!

    i am told i have 10 days to return the money to her or they will take it from my checking acct.
    i dispute and send before/after photos. the problem is you can't really see the scratches because they are so so small. even w/ macro.

    in the end she got her money back and i had to sell it again. Paypal fees? eBay closing fees? I lost all that, no refund. Her only cost was shipping it back to me.

    SO the moral of the story is: Paypal protects buyers much more than sellers.

    If what you are saying about your transaction is true, it appears that PayPal will not protect either buyer or sellers.

    They are very uncooperative when you try to give them evidence. They advised me that they will not accept pictures or email correspondence as evidence.

    I have a very low opinion of the company and their business practices.

    Evidence could be set in stone and PayPal will not observe it, it's too easy to replicate a photo claiming it to be the origianl product, even if it was it's hard to prove. Though it's your responsibility to offer insurance for consumables, so that you and the buyer are both protected from fraudulent sales/purchases.

    Besides PayPal is an Ebay subsidiary.

    I my case as a buyer, I did pay extra for insurance. All I ever got was a receipt by PayPal for the extra I paid for the insurance. I never received any insurance and neither PayPal or the Seller would correspond with me regarding subject after the sale.

    You are taking a big risk by doing any business with them!
