    I'm currently using Novastor InstantRecovery to provide partition level backups on my WinXP Home SP2 system. Unfortunately it does not support SATA HDs and, as I am about to upgrade my drives to SATA, I'm looking for an alternative. I have read the spec on 'Acronis True Image 9 Home' which looks ideal so I have downloaded the trial version to check it out before buying. Unfortunately every time I try to install it I get the error "Failed to register the product. Please try again later". Looking through some of the threads on this forum I have tried all the suggestions (I have no proxies set in IE6 and I've turned off WinXP's firewall. Still no joy. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.

    I too am having the same problem :(

    Would it be possible to download a trial that doesn't require registration like I've seen some other users do?

    I am also hoping to get a version that does not require registration too. Feel that it doesn't even attempt to access the internet and it says fail to register!

    I am running McAfee Internet Suite. The firewall will have indicated to me if Acronis True Image Home 9.0 Trial is attempt to access the internet. But nothing happen.

    I too got the dreaded "Failed to register the product." I even disconnected my firewall temporarily just before trying to register. I would like a link to allow me to download a version not requiring registration.

    @Acronis Support:

    Hi,

    I just got a new PC, but I have to make extensive changes to the system before being able to use it (a.o. change from XP Home to XP Pro). As a previous attempt to do this caused problems for all preinstalled programs (including Symantec Media Recovery!!!), I would want to create a backup of my entire hard disk (to DVD+R/W) before starting this process. Judging by the description, the Acronis tools just look fit for the job... :) :) :)

    I downloaded TrueImageHome via my old computer, had a quick look at it, and I think it will indeed do what I need. :cool: :cool: :cool:

    Unfortunately, when I try to install on my new PC, I off course get stuck on the registration issue. As I didn't set up any anti-virus/firewall yet, I don't want to go online with my new computer. o_O o_O o_O

    Would it be possible to give me the download link for the version that doesn't require online registration? Thanks Beforehand :-* :-* :-*

    I'm afraid that you should reinstall your preinstalled software if you're going to replace WinXp Home with WinXP Pro....

    Sure, Acronis True Image 9.0 Home will allow you to create an image of your hard drive, but you should keep this in mind.

    I've send PM to you with solution regarding trial version...

    Thanks for the quick reply and link; today I'm unfortunately tied up with higher priority work, but I'll get to the download as soon as I can, and keep you informed...

    PS: it *should* be possible to upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro without loosing any data or applications, provided that the service level of Pro is at least the same as that of Home (i.e. if XP Home SP2 is installed, it should be possible to upgrade "in place" to XP Pro SP2). This is the theory, and I'll let you know if this works.

    Hello jvanp,

    Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Actually, Vart is not quite right. Please read this article by Microsoft about upgrading to Windows XP from previous versions of Windows.

    Also I have sent you the link to download the trial version of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home without registration screen via Private Message.

    Thank you.

    @Alexandr: thanks for the link to the Microsoft pages; I'll definitely look into it... Also thanks for the download link, but Vart already gave me one (slightly different - with uoqzj before the periods, I don't know if that really matters...). I managed to download that version, and install it on my new PC, without an Internet connection :D :D :D

    @Acronis Support: Using True Image Home, I managed to create a backup of my entire hard disk to DVD, and I was IMPRESSED with the SPEED: only 18 minutes to backup +/- 8GB of data (Normal compression) to a 4-speed DVD+RW. Congretulations :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: . I also included the option to add full Acronis TI to the backup media.

    When I insert the DV in my new PC, and boot from it, Acronis TI stand alone comes up correctly, but it doesn't find the DVD; it only sees my local hard disk :'( :'( :'( .

    I also first tried booting XP, and then launching TI. This time, the DVD is recognised and I can select the backup file; but as I select the option to recover the entire hard disk, I'm told that a reboot is necessary. After clicking Ok, my PC reboots and Acronis stand alone comes up, but again, the DVD drive is not found o_O o_O o_O

    In either case, the stand alone version issues 2 messages at startup:
    ide0: ports already in use, skipping probe
    ide1: ports already in use, skipping probe

    According to device manager, the DVD drive is a "SONY DVD +- RW DW-Q58A" (this is a 8x DVD +/- RW recorder), and I'm using 4x DVD +RW discs (I didn't manage to find any 8x RW discs yet in the shops)

    If you would want to discuss this in person, just tell me in a PM; I can either be reached via regular phone, or via Skype (remember I'm in Belgium, so at GMT-1)

    Tx for assistance

    Hi,
    I downloaded the Acronis True Image from my Dial up connection (7 Hours download!).
    I entered my Name & Emailed address and connected to the web. The program seems to have been installed.
    On clicking Start/Programs/Acronis?Acronis True Image Home/Acronis True Image Home Nothing happens.
    What's wrong? Should I get a registration code for the trial version? I would prefer to avoid having to download again 76.936 MB trial version. Thanks

    John

    Hello jvanp,

    In case your DVD drive is in the list of the available storage devices when the free trial version of Acronis True Image 9.0 is operating in Linux based Acronis Rescue Environment, i.e. when using the 'Full' version of Bootable Rescue CD or Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, but no backups ('.tib' file) can be found on the DVD that in fact contains them then you encounter a known problem described in this previous thread. This issue has already been investigated and fixed. The fix will be implemented in the next build of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home which is expected to be released within the next few weeks. We are sorry for the current inconvenience. You can safely ignore messages that appear upon the startup process in this case.

    If your DVD drive is not shown in the list of the available storage devices when the free trial version of Acronis True Image 9.0 is operating in Linux based Acronis Rescue Environment, i.e. when using the 'Full' version of Bootable Rescue CD or Acronis Startup Recovery Manager, then please use Ask a question before you purchase Acronis software link to submit a request containing the following information:

    - Create Linux system information ('sysinfo.txt' file) as it is described in Acronis Help Post;

    Note that sometimes the sysinfo.txt file is not readable from under Windows. In this case please try entering the file name using capital letters (SYSINFO.TXT) or follow the instructions provided in this previous post of mine.

    If you do not have a floppy drive then please take a look at this previous post of mine explaining how to save the sysinfo.txt file to USB flash drive.

    - The exact vendor and model of your DVD drive;

    - The exact text of the messages you receive upon the startup process;

    - When do these messages appear exactly;

    - Step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears along with the link to this thread.

    We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the most suitable solution as soon as possible.

    P.S. You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 9.0 Home in the respective User's Guide.

    You may also find Acronis True Image 9.0 Home FAQ page helpful.

    Please start the new thread each time you want to report a problem.

    Thank you.

    Hello everyone,

    If you can not pass the online registration step while trying to install the free trial version of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home then please do as I have suggested in this previous post of mine.

    The thread is closed.

    Thank you.
