    Hi there,

I am currently placing images from my laptop system hard disc to an intranet server instead of DVD's.

How will this later be possible to restore? AS far as I understand in the case of data loss, it is ment ot place the DVD into the drive and recover from there. But how will this work from a network drive?

    Thank you for any help,

    Merlin

the bootable CD, whether the packaged installation cd or created with the Rescue Media Builder, can restore Images from Windows shares. But beware, that restricitive security settings on the server may cause problems.

When you boot into your recovery disk, and go to the Restore option, it will ask you what file to restore. All you gotta do is put in the path to the image you wish to use, and it will prompt you for your network credentials

In my experience I've had to type in \\servername\driveletter$\whateverfolder\image.tib , if I left out the c$/d$ or whatever the drive was, it would repeatedly prompt me for credentials endlessly.

You should make sure you can get this to work before you have a disaster.

If you don't want to go as far as an actual restore, bootup the recovery disk and navigate to your backup files on the server and do a validate of the image. Although not ideal, this should provide some degree of confidence that you will be able to do a restore.

    Hello Merlin,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

As it was said above, using Acronis True Image you will be able to create a special bootable rescue media and if your system fails you just need to boot from the rescue media and restore the system.

When booted from the bootable media you are able to access any connected hard disks as well as a wide variety of IDE, SCSI, FireWire (IEEE-1394), USB (1.0, 1.1, 2.0) and PC card (PCMCIA) interfaces and devices, including CD-ROM, CD-R(RW), DVD, magneto-optical drives, network, Iomega Zip and Jaz. So you can store your image on the network shared drive and restore it if necessary without any problems.

You can also find more information on how to use Acronis True Image in the respective User's Guide.

    Thank you.
