It's been 8 months 11 days , 6,107.87518 hours , 366,472.511 minutes or 21,988,350.6 seconds , since Symantec completed the Sygate Acquisition; well depending on the way you look at it. I myself, been tormented every second.

So, my question to you... I am looking for a replacement product. What am I looking for? No bulk, No added features, No gizmos, No kiddy interface, No bonus software, No useless junk which is completely and utterly useless for a firewall (Symantec); just an application that is suppose to do what it was developed to do and the ability to customize the connections, which is to allow/deny Applications, Ports, IP, Subnets, Mac Addresses, Protocols and Schedules.

To date I've used Outpost, Norton, Mcaffee, Kerio, and a few generic applications, but none of which come close to Sygates Light Weight and Structured Interface.

little personal firewall provide Mac Addresses define lists, I don't think you can find another personal firewall like sygate, just stick to it.

Thanks for the info. I made the assumption they took down the site, since I received a 404 the last few times I visited. But yeah saw that too after digging a bit more, great info :)

Say the least Sygate has the best support since I've been with them, no scripted monkey speak, their techs have their own minds. That's a priviledge!

I have to admit that I was a bit disgruntled that Symantec did not even offer a replacement package due to the acquisition , very poor customer relations. Not like I am a Symantec fan or anything... However, i'll need to track down how long Symantec has to legally fulfill their support from the acquisition.

Why replace sygate just because support is discontinued? Just use it and bog it down with process guard or something else to protect it and ride out. I can't see anything out there yet that compares with it, and most crackers I know have a real hard time getting past some of sygates protections.

    Hello,
Sygate is a good and solid firewall and much better than many other out there.
It does what it needs to do, it's stable, fast, without errors and conflicts.
You surely don't need to replace it. You can happily continue working with it, and hope that one day there will be another serious player that can compare with it.

whisl3r ,i understand and sympatyze with your stance towards the Sygate-symantec saga. I used many firewalls ,including K 2.1.5, and i agree with previous posters that its really difficult to find anything handier and more efficient than Sygate 5.5 Pro, which i still run in my main pc,in spite of running also Avast and its proxy (localhost issue bypassed); i did the recent updates ,too, those belonging to the Symantec era, with some puzzlement and trepidation..... mainly because nobody had complained about any obnoxious thing going on.
To sum it up: i would never leave 5.5 pro, unless forced to by still unknown factors.
At the time being,if i had to part ways with Sygate,i'd go Jetico.
In fact,i run Jetico in my second pc with extraordinary results: lighter even than Sygate, superb with outgoing traffic as it denies unless permitted almost anything, once you begin to understand a bit about its strange ways, you'll like it at least as Sygate.
