What do you mean?, something that scans the internet for working proxy's?
I've never heard of such a extension for firefox that i know of.You could always try to search their extensions-site.

hi, what i'd really like is something like this Charon. although i don't need the anonyous bit. just a way to automatically search thourgh proxies until it finds one that works.

the reason i asked for something for Firefox or Opera is because they should work with Linux. so i just need anything Linux compatible. thanks.

thanks, i suppose it's what i asked for, but what i ment was this - how do i find working proxies? i haven't got any I.P.s so i wanted to find out if there's a way of having a list of I.P.s which are guaranteed to work. whenever i've tried proxies they never work :(

Well, I don't know why the proxies aren't working for you, they do for me. Not all 'verified' proxies are guaranteed to work, you have to test them until you find one that does. I usually find a working proxy among the list within a couple of tries.

Try proxy servers found by the LogBud proxy search tool, they should be good. If you can't find one that works then something else is amiss, probably your computer's network config and/or security settings.

Ice why not you use Tor with Privoxy? There's also a few extension you can use in FF to quickly toggle if on/off (TorButton) or use one of the proxy switch tools

You can apt-get install tor ... same for privoxy I believe.

The only config from there is adding in forward-socks4a / localhost:9050 . (don't forget the space & period) in the config file ... also logfile logfile and the line jarfile jarfile need to be commented out with # ... and config your browsers with 127.0.0.1 - 8118 for HTTP/HTTPS and even FTP and Gopher too even though those protocals aren't supported in privoxy because for example a website could use a img tag link to a ftp site which will reveal your location. Use a FTP client for FTP sites as it'll be broken in your browser configured this way ;) Socks 127.0.0.1 - 9050 - The use of privoxy is needed to prevent your browser from leaking DNS requests.

You can check that your tor-ified after setting it up - here

i'm definitely going to setup TOR in the next week or so along with gnugp with my email client (i've got an mp3 about setting up gnugp if anyone's interested) but, i wasn't using the proxy for anonymity, i wanted to watch Lost :D :ninja:

I'm using enigma/openPGP with my email client ... as an extension of Kpgp - The only problem is signing emails isn't an issue, but encrpyted ones can be a problem with many email clients so far the only successfully encrypted email I've sent is to one of my remote machines (business) ... when you get it setup let me know and maybe we send a few test emails to each other.
