As with build 3625, I created two CD-RW rescue disks.
I then tried both rescue disks.

    One worked with no problem.

However, the other had a couple of hissy fits.

First time I tried to boot, it never even got to the splash screen and gave some message about not being to load soenting or other.

So, not being one to give up, I rebooted, using the same disk. This time it got to point where the screen stated that *ix was loading, but then issued a message that the kernel could not be loaded.

Ok, 'nuf I said, so I recreated the rescue disk, and this time it worked.

Implication is that something did not get properly recorded on the rescue disk.

Well, TI needs a verify process after creating a rescue disk.

And, there needs to be a validation process when booting from the disk.
This needs to be done immediately, BEFORE TI tries to load *ix.

Agreed!! If for nothing else, it would have prevented about a hundred posts from CAT-21.

Thanks for testing build 3633. I am still waiting for feedbacks before I will update from 3567.

The trick here is to find a build with bugs that do not affect what you need from TI and stick with it.

    You've got that right mate!

I have dozens of users still on 8.0.937 standalone and Windows Server editions and they work. We have done full bare metal restores, full restores to new servers, restores of select partitions only, back up fully and incrementally to external USB drives down a network, mouint images as a drive to do individual file restores. This last week we replaced an old Dell W2K server with a new one purchased with no O/S, SCSI RAID5, restored from USB, resized partitions, rebooted in safe mode, let W2K server find all the new hardware and rebooted normally and had it running in 2 hours.

Can't do my job without TI but refuse to upgrade to do Acronis's beta testing for them. Been there and done that with 8.0 and will stick with 8.0.937 until new features are so overwhelmingly productive that I can't refuse an upgrade.

I've a couple of newer clients with 9.0 and 9.1 and there is no advantage to them in the environments that I support.

I also know that I have been fortunate to not have encounter some of the "show stoppers" other forum dweller have encountered.

I love this product. It has made me look good in the eyes of my clients when disaster strikes. Compared to those who previously supported them, my billable hours are far less when disaster strikes. That is actually good for me. Client retention and less hassel! Mr Dell can replace a drive or motherboard on warrantee but Tsu has to get the user up and running with their old apps and data and keep them happy.

I have no clients who do not use TI of one flavor or another. That is a prerequisite for me providing service. I have no time for clients who won't help me help them by purchasing a TI licence for every machine ( along with a decent A/V program and software or hardware firewall ) and some form of off-the-pc backup device - network drive, external USB drive, etc. Backup to a partiton on the same PC is not a backup IMHO.

    Sorry for the rant.

No worries ... good to hear the old version is doing you good.

Just out of curiousity, are any of your clients using any of the following:

Multiple usb devices including hubs, keyboard, mouse.
    Wireless keyboard, mouse.

And do you have any clients using removable rack/tray devices for the hard drive so that in the event of failure they would simply power down, remove the tray and insert another tray with a backup drive? But of course, that would probably cut into your income. :D :D :D

No racks - servers are also Primary DS, nobody has more than one server on their domain. These are small businesses - like me :)

Newest Dell 830 server has USB mouse and keyboard. 2 USB slots in front and 2 in back so the USB drives are plugged into the front for now as I don't want to intrude into the box until it has been stable for a few weeks. They will get moved to the back eventually. The keyboard and mouse could also get moved to their dedicated PS/2 ports and free up the rear USB ports.

    Hello Howard,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

If you are able to reproduce the problem, please boot your computer from the Acronis True Image rescue disc and press F11 key when the selection screen advising you to select either "Full", "Safe" or "Boot into Windows" option appears. After you get the "Linux Kernel Settings" prompt, please remove the "quiet" word, click on the OK button and choose "Full Version". As the startup messages stop scrolling, you can use Shift+PgUp and Shift+PgDn keys in order to scroll the screen manually. Please write down the last few lines of the output, or use a digital camera to make shots of the output screens and send the captured information to us.

Please submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem.

If you want us to change the behaviour of Acronis True Image in any way or add some new features to this product, please feel free to post any of your suggestions in Acronis True Image WISH-LIST thread.

    Thank you.

I've stayed with the stand alone 8.0.937 because of so many problems reported with the 9.X versions. I was told after version 6 or something around that time that direct to DVD was next on the priority list- that was a long time ago to say the least!

With 8.0.937 I have restored countless partitions and drives from images on external drives and copied a failing drive to a new one. I'd love the direct to DVD feature- but my days of being a beta-testing sucker are long over. I'll wait till they get it right.

Sorry, just my opinion on a frustrating subject.

    No thanx.

It is Acronis' responsibility to monitor this forum to determine what bugs exist and what features are needed, and to keep track of such things.
