Search an item in SpywareBlaster database ?

    Hi,

    Not sure whether the question has been submitted.

    How to see, for example, if adserver.adtech.de is protected by SpywareBlaster ?

    Hi Yinda,

    If you know the CLSID or the name of the offender, You can search SpywareBlaster by rightclicking in the list window, click Find and type in (part of) the CLSID or the name.

    Thanks. I did not know the right clicking :oops:

    In the list, there are AdTech and AdServer as cookies. Because other cookies are AdButler.com and AdButler.de, I wonder whether SpywareBlaster protects agains Adserver.adtech.de

    Also, what is the meaning of protection against a cookie ?

    The rightclick search option was added in the last new build, so you are probably not the only one that didn't know. ;)

    I can't answer the question about the AdButler cookies I'm afraid. Are they tracking cookies?

    The cookie protection in SpywareBlaster uses the Advanced Privacy settings of IE 6 to block the unwanted cookies.

    If you like you can add AdButler there yourself:
    In IE click Tools > Internet options > Privacy tab > click the button in the websites box and you will see a screen like the one I attached.

    Where you can fill out the URL and click always allow or always block.

    I don't have an english version of IE6, but I think you'll see what I mean.

    Hi Pieter,

    No, I don't know AdButler at all. I just find that AdButler is specified with .com and .de, but not AdServer nor AdTech. So I wonder whether blocking AdServer and AdTech cookies means blocking all *.AdServer.* and *.AdTech.*

    I'll check the cookie blocking in IE.

    The references in the main SpywareBlaster screen itself are just the names given by Javacool to each item, and that does not always show the details of what is actually being blocked. When you look them up in the IE interface, you'll see the complete domain name related to the cookies being blocked.

    As an example, if you look in SpywareBlaster's screen, a few items above "AdServer", you'll see one called "Enliven Ads", but the domain being blocked in IE is "ads.enliven.com". So, the specific name listed in SpywareBlaster is not always the full detail to what is being blocked.

    I hope that helps to explain it,

    Yes it is much clearer now.

    I did not realize one point, when Pieter said :
    do you mean that the SpywareBlaster list comes from and is identical to IE's ?

    To my understanding (not 100% sure, only 99%) SpywareBlaster adds the sites to that list, when you activate the cookie protection.
