curruntly trying to fix this pc of a mate n its doin my nut in now, im usually fairly good at this but this one i do admit i need help, the pc turns off and the motherboard starts beeping, this usually happens when playing games, i scanned with ewido, avast, and regrun but these are fine n tell me that the pc is fine i ran system mechanic6 pro, it said allsorts were wrong, it fixed em but the problem remains, adaware took allsorts off this machine, but as soon as spybot scans anywhere near e:/ then it turns off, i doesnt shut down you dont get no warning usually you at least get a box that says this station will shut down in 1:00 or sumink but you can abort that this you cant stop, but i also tried to boot up from cd n it shut down, it wont let me format the drive it wont let me reinstall windows it says 'cannot transfer file hahatva~bt/dll or.sys or sumink like that it definately says 'bt' if that helps, we swapped all the memory out so its not that unless the ports are blown, we thought it could be the graphics card, but it wouldnt run very well anyways then, could it be a partially blown processor?, the process list isn't showing anything unusual,

any ideas? any advice would be most helpful

Off the top of my head....could be heat related. When was the last time the side panel was off and a good cleaning with compressed air done? Just a thought thrown out for trying.

the side panal is off very regular and given a very good clean with a vacume and a soft paintbrush, that was my first thing was the processor could be overheating but its fine, all clean and cool

is there any bios viruses that can do this to his pc?

Yes, it could be heating problem since games will demand a lot from your system. Since you seemed have opened the computer and also naturally could have done some cleaning to remove dust, you will need to check the power supply, it could be failing or simply does not have enough juice to handle the demands from cpu and graphic card. Make sure all the cooling fans are running normally.

It could be a nasty virus also. Suggest to run your anti-virus program. And try free online scanning from symantec, trend micro and panda. You can also download and run the free cwsshredder from trend micro.

It`s possible, but have not seen one in a while that go`s after the BIOS. You mention it freezing while scanning E:\. Are there programs actually installed on E:\ or is it just a storage drive? I`m still leaning towards hardware problems, but just a gut feeling.

A bad power supply can also cause the symptoms you related. It is another thing to consider. I have had clients who have machines that when the power supply gets hot or gets overloaded it turns off. Sometimes the PS is rated for the job, it is just getting old or is defective.

its a brand new power supply so i dont think its that. its a 450w so its got enought power, n it jus straight turns off, it doesnt crash freeze or nowt its like someone unpluged it, but like i said it wont let me format this drive, but windows is accually installed on e:/ but its a partitioned hard drive, theres c:/ which is a 5 gig, then e:/ and i:/ is a partitioned 80 gig, but you can scan i not a problem its just the e:/ side wont let me scan, if i try scanning it with spybot it jus has none of it n turns off, wich leads me to beleive it is a software problem, a program interacting with the bios or interfering with the power supply for the motherboard, im jus fresh outta ideas now

    Hi lutindiable, Welcome!

You mentioned beeping. Can you please reboot then try to determine a specific sequence?
Any chance you can include a few system/hardware spec's?

Also, please be as precise as possible .... "cannot transfer file hahatva~bt/dll or.sys ..."
Another area that's a possibility may be bad memory.

all the beeps seem to do is tell me that the pc has turned itself off, it kinda sounds like a fire engine type noise

    Have you tried clean-booting? Advanced?
You should additionally be able to determine if the system is utilizing the latest BIOS version here - http://www.sis.com/support/

If it's beeping after it shuts off, I would definitely say it's a hardware problem, and probably thermal. If you can get a manual for the motherboard you should be able to look up what the beeping means. First thing I would do is to check all the fans, make sure they all spin freely (giving it a light push should let it spin at least a couple full rotations), you might also feel around for extra heat. Some hard drives will die by overheating. If that's the case you might be able to put a cooler on it to salvage the data after you get a new drive, then just keep the cooler on the new drive.

i do admit it does seem like a hardware problem but its just the fact but its effecting something on the partitioned harddrive on the e:/ side of things,

If its crashing even in CMOS its a hardware prob, as many have stated before either thermal (Check your temperature, should be able to in the BIOS settings or with a program like SpeedFan) or possibly the drive is dying, or its a memory issue, or PSU, those are all possibilities - also, just because the PSU is new and 450w doesn't mean anything, what brand is it? cheap PSU's (say, $50 and under) are usually very light and do not put out anywhere near what the box says (I know, I've only just recently dealt with a PSU prob, had a cheap one, finally upgraded to a Antec fixed my problem). Do you have any way to burn a bootable Linux CD or a bootable Windows CD (using BartPE) with some benchmarks on them? If so what I'd do is disconnect all hardware that is not necessary to boot (Soundcards, hard drives, all but one cd drive, leave one stick of memory, etc) and run some benchmarks, also try Memtest86+ (google it) to look for memory problems, this is most certainly a hardware error if it crashes even with a bootable linux cd, etc.
