build 3625 has DIRECT DVD WRITING!!! AT LAST!!

Yes it had it and also ability to make an PE ISO ;-)

I did a quick backup of a small non-system partition directly to DVD using TI9 Home build 3625. It worked!!

I restored the above mentioned partition from the DVD.It worked!!

If by direct DVD writing you mean without the aid of InCD, yes it works OK.

In case anyone wonders, the new version still works with previously InCD formatted dvd+rw .. but they do need to be 'empty', i.e. it doesn't come back and say 'would you like to erase this dvd+rw'..

Sounds like this might be worth the upgrade. Still, I will let the brave ones do some more beta testing.
