With the file backup portion of Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server, is it possible to do backups of SQL Server databases without taking them offline? That would be really nice if it could pull a snapshot on-the-fly. Any know?

You can use the Pre/Post snapshot commands to stop the DB services and then resume them. Either enter them directly into to the pre/post commands section, or create a batch file.

    net stop xxxxx
    net start xxxxxx

There are details in the User Guide regarding these commands.

So there's no way yet to do a hot backup without taking the SQL server offline?

    Hello agentstarks,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Remote Server Backup Software.

Please note that the current version of Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server for Windows supports Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) that allows you to backup easily VSS compatible databases (Exchange, Oracle, SQL Server) without taking databases offline and ensuring data consistency. If your database is compatible with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS), then checking the Enable VSS support box in Database support window will ensure completion of all transactions before the backup process starts. Then the database will be ready to access immediately after recovery. Additional information can be found in Chapter 6.3.4 "Database support" in the Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server for Windows User Guide.

    Thank you.
