I got a real kick out of your post. I know you are pissed, but it was really funny. smartypants, although you are correct, as I do feel the same way, I am happy to read the more recent posts that mention the upcoming updated version of WormGuard.
I'm still laughing.

What a day. I got hit by trojans yesterday and my PC kept rebooting, then the task manager was greyed out so I couldn't stop it. Don't know how I got infected except that I spent all day re-installing. Couldn't get my email or download manager to work.

I got notices about worms and trojans from my AV but nothing from Wormguard at all so an update might help.

Firstly sorry to hear that you have been having troubles, but to be fair to DCS here a "trojan" isn't always a worm so is this something you should expect WG to be doing?

Something like RegDefend would have alerted you to the registry changes prior to them happening. If the reboots didn't happen as soon as the changes happened then the polling registry monitors would probably have had a fair chance of letting you know as well

It might be worth considering adding some registry protection of some form or other to your setup, there are plenty of products that do it now (with various levels of protection and cost).

I had worms as well as trojan alerts so I only expected Wormguard to alert or intercept the worms of course not the trojans. Anyway it's all over now except that I can't backup my PC with True Image 8. All it gives me are corrupt images everytime I test them so it's just not my day. Hope my year is better. LOL

 

Sorry Dave....many of use know your pain.........when you write reinstalling do you mean Windows ? If so did you reformat prior to doing so?

 

Yes I had to do a full re-install of Windows and I did a long format of the hard drive. Installed Process Guard 3.2 on the new installation but had problems with it and had to uninstall it. True Image 8 is very buggy so I am left without any backup solution for the time being.

Just curious about my understanding about WormGuard. I was under the belief that WG protects from scripts (that make a call to Windows Scripting Host), but does not include those scripts that are interpreted by your browser ?

So my understanding is that it is useful against script based worms that attempt to come through your email, IM (I think) or when you are installing a program (which would actually make it a trojan I suppose).

Please correct me if I am wrong.

 

The moment of glory for WormGuard 4 began in 2002. It is now 2006. Did DiamondCS lose their best programmer? Is it possible for DiamondCS to update WormGuard? I've had the same program for the last three years. Every program to my knowledge gets an update. WormGuard gets a wish.

C'mon DiamondCS, wake up. It's 2006 and your customers are still waiting. You ppl should take a lesson from Agnitum. At least they listen to their base of support. DiamondCS just plays "Dream On".


Year 2007 is on the horizon.

 

I'm very disappointed too mate but my advice to you is to just forget about it. You got the program you paid for so just be happy with that if you can.

Huh, DCS still hasn't updated wormguard. I hope WormGuard isn't turning into another TDS-4.

 

Guess all energy is in PG at the moment. Let's just wait and see what happens.

If there is an update to Wormguard, I hope that it isn't a kitchen sink one like some, e.g. System Mechanic, which developed beyond their area of expertise. I Want Wg to protect against scripts that I don't use or need to use, and a few peripheral phages. The interface could use some improvement, but that's a minor matter. Dare I say it? I installed PG on a computer that I use as a server and installed on this one (using now) Prevx1. My core security now is Wormguard, Port Explorer, ewido, Prevx1, Trojan Remover, and ZoneAlarm Internet Security. Wormguard still works fine if you add some of the newbie phages.
I know the feeling of sorta falling in love with a company, then discover it is powered by humans. I was saddened by the demise of TDS-3. I have a new love now, ewido; she has beaten Prevx1 to the punch most times to protect me. We live on. I waited for awhile waiting for some issue out of DiamondCS, but with a shrug of my brain I moved on with ewido. If you tire of waiting for an upgrade to Wormguard seek the answer some other place. Verbal attacks on DiamondCS, no matter how loving, is a waste of time.
Maybe DiamondCS should just work three product lines, or fewer; some large companies do that. Work your area of expertise. Zonelabs did that. When they wanted to add an antivirus, they didn't fumble out one; they licensed the technology from Computer Associates. They acquired the technology from Mailfrontier for spamfilter. Zonelabs has basically stayed around firewall tech.
I have plans for a new computer to be protected by ZoneAlarm, Prevx1, and Spybot S&D. My bud, DatumMain, has this; he swears by it.

I understand a crush on small and medium companies that produce good, useful programs. Even large ones. I stalked JV16 through freeware into commercial. Many small companies have had, or felt they had, to sell to larger companies to survive. Superwin Software is basically one person, the programmer. I believe that his spouse, and two others, a rep for USA and one for overseas are the complete company. He has four products, including a trash file cleaner and a registry cleaner, a registry backup (crash recovery)tool, and a file transplanter. His programs ain't pretty but they work well. There are about nine or ten companies whose products I buy. I have only discarded one: Iolo.
Today is election day, the primaries, I have to shower and go vote. I can vote either in the democratic or republican primary. Which should I, a flaming libertarian, vote in? Tell me in the open to anything forum. Peace, forumors, and Jooske.
