What's the best anti-trojan software out there?

That's for free.

 

I can't even remember a "free" one at all. Ewido has a free on-demand scanner and it's the best (between "dedicated anti-trojan" on demand scanners), but it's not really "free".

Then you will have a list...

Ewido hands down. It's a good Anti Malware program. Take a look at the link Blackcat posted.

The trouble with "Free", is that you get what you paid for.

 

Give me a break. There are a million examples of open source software much better than commercial software.

 

In case you hadn't noticed, the thread is about AT software. There is a cost in time and money to the authors to keep their definitions updated.

 

Well, I'm sorry but by reading your sentence it didn't seem like you were referring to a particular kind of software:

It can be argued that the above is (in a way) true for software that needs constant definitions updates. It certainly is NOT true for much of the rest. A BSD webserver is "free" and it's a hell of a lot more stable and secure than a Windows server.

 

Unlike you, I wouldn't be mentioning the BSD webserver in a thread about AntiTrojans. It is known as being on topic.

 

Cool it people, TNT was only trying to say an example of when free is better than paid, and he was definately right in his statement. You previously stated that

In the terms of a free anti-trojan, it is probably best to download both a-squared and ewido since they are both free on-demand scanners.

It really doesn't matter that you then tried to correct your ridiculous statement by saying that it is true only for antitrojans. Your sentence as it was was clearly NOT referring exclusively to anti-trojans.

 

My choice is Trojan Remover. In the four years I have had this software, no Trojans whatsoever, or malware. As for the comparison review, I take that for a grain of salt, there are always hidden agena's on these reviews. However I respect everyones opinion, to each his own.

 

For free I'd take Ewido without a second thought.

Meanwhile, back at the thread --- Ewido is excellent, free or not. A-squared is also quite good, but its free version scans on-demand only.

 

I agree with Bellgamin.....on his observation. What really boils down to is what works best for you and what you are comfortable with. Whether its free and paid if your happy with it God Bless......... You have to simple try different ones out and choose....

I'm confused , is this thread about free anti-trojans or just anti-trojans in general? The title doesn't say free, but the person who started this thread wants to know only about free.

What about a "sandbox" to protect you. Sandboxie is free - you can search Wilders and find more info. Same goes for Bufferzone.

Defensewall Sandbox HIPS costs USD 29.-

Sandboxes need no updating of sigs - ever. So you need not pay every year.

Dont know about other sandboxes, but DW works silently and no popups - ever.

Ewido is the best free online trojan scanner I know of. I use it to check my system, but since I started surfing and emailing out of a sandbox Ewido never finds anything.
