"Interesting Mike. I found that if I defragged with Perfect Disk, then installed and ran a week with Rollback, and then uninstalled my disk was in better shape then if I ran without Rollback."

This makes absolutely no sense-how could it be better than when you defragged with Perfect Disk?

    Hi Mike

Sure it does. Remember Rollback is really leaving your files from when you installed in place. Everything after that is maintained by Rollback in their file sector system. Only when you uninstall is it rewritten back. Remember if you look at your disk with Rollback installed you are only seing what is in that snapshot.

Dont agree at all-and I am sure anyone who carries out my experiment would feel the same.

You seem to be saying that RBx is capable of actually performing some sort of defrag to the main hard disc itself.

RBx can only defrag within its own snapshots and its own self contained system, but quite independently of that, the harddisc is still fragmenting.

Its obvious, thats were all the activity is taking place, which is creating fragments, not within the RBx system.

Anyway, your regular defragger should have told you that it has achieved a defrag of all files except 1%.

Are you saying the use of RBx has reduced this to zero-cant be done!

    Hi Mike

No what I am saying is that if you a defrag just before installing Rollback, and then run for say two weeks and uninstall, that the end result will be less fragmentation, with Rollback, then without Rollback. At least thats what I consistently saw.

Not sure it's a disagreement as much as just seeing different results, and that doesn't surprise me. These are computers.

No the coupon is not valid anymore. There will be no more 50% off coupons in the future. I know this is bad news and I hope you will not hesitate to purchase even though it is regular price because it is worth it in my opinion..

    Thanks,

    Chris

    @Chris12923, Bellgamin, Aigle, Atomas31,

thanks for the replys. I see the program has worked well for all of you, that's good!

I thought I would give it a try. Thanks for the link Atomas31. When I went to the site the 25% off is if you write a testimonial. I don't even have the program.

Do you any of you use BootIt NG with this program?

You're welcome! As far as BootIt NG I would not recommend it as it modifies the MBR and could and probably will cause issues.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Rilla927,

You're welcome! As for the 25% off for writing a testimonial, you should with Rollback rx like any other software first trial it to see if it works well on your system and if you like it! Than, if it works well for you and like it, you will be able to make an honest testimonials and get a 25% off :)

Also, like Chris have write, if BootIt NG does modified with MBR, I would not recommend BootIt NG with Rollback Rx.

    Best regards,
    Atomas31

Wow I read all the posts pertaining to this product. LOL man information OVERLOAD. I just wanted to say that I'm planning on buying roll back rx. As for the restoring an image issue. It should be common practice, provided that the hard disc is still good that you reformat entire hard disc then do the image restore. Hence partition magic works well in this scenario. Not exactly sure what set up the other guys had but I hope their systems were partitioned at least. If roll back rx is working how it suppose to, then restoring an image isnt even an issue unless you get a hard ware failure, then hopefully you made an image back up of your set up either using ghost or acronis. Take out the bad hardware put in the new and do the image restore its actually that simple, speaking as some one thats done it already, using ghost 2003. Roll back rx would save you alot of time in restoring your system provided your hardware is working OK.

A quick saying about FDISR the only thing I dont like about it is that it resides in the C: partition and for me thats a NO NO, I firmly believe in keeping the OS seperate from everything else for security reasons; I just feel that anything that resides in the same space of the OS which is the GateWay to alot of your troubles has a very good chance of getting messed with hence programs may not work as they should....but thats another topic. Good Luck to the others in your search for the better restore program.

    Couple of points.

There have been some imaging issues with Rollback. You might want to read those posts in detail, and maybe test if you can.

The other thing is what you are protecting with Rollback. If your system use is fairly standard and want Rollback to enable you to undo installs, etc it is a very good product. But if you are into beta testing of products that can be very susceptible to crashing your system, then you might want to rethink it. I test several products that all work at the kernel level, and seeing crashes and hangs isn't at all unusual. FDISR has proven to be 100% reliable under the severest of these conditions. Regretfully Rollback wasn't. You are right FDISR has to be in the C: drive, which if you partition might be an issue. However I've found using FDISR, negates some of the risks that concern you about not partitioning.

Some risks for me is unacceptable

Scary thought to think a program is 100% reliable; stilll wondering if you were connected to the net or not during the restore process with FDISR. I guess theres a 1st time for everything and if it hasnt happened yet KNOCK on wood.

Actually Pete Im just wondering if FDISR allows you to save the images to another partition or does it reside on the C: as does the program itself? I know im going over board with security but I just have a thing against anything being in the same "quarters" (partition) as the OS unless the machine in question never ever had access to the internet at all then ok.

My ? to you Pete is when or what instance during beta testing a program that Rollback Rx was unsucessful? , and Im not talking about image restore issues pertaining to Acronis or Ghost, speaking for myself image restore should be done if your hardware fails or more importantly your restore software fails: Rollback Rx, but however & whenever you image restore is up to the individual.

Re the partitioning, I am going to post in the other thread.

About FDISR being 100% reliable. In the couple of years using it, I have recovered from trashing my system at least 100 times if not more. FDISR has worked as advertised EVERY time. Interestingly I found an obscure bug, that caused me to have to check out Rollback until it was fixed. Even that bug didn't prevent FDISR from doing it's job. I just couldn't build new snapshots.

About Rollback. First what I was seeing if I crashed or had to do a power reset, on the reboot Chkdsk would run and report some scary disk error's. They always got fixed, but this was time consuming and a bit scary. Never seen this with FDISR, and I've checked my disk with no issues. Final straw was making a change in one snapshot, and seeing several other snapshots get corrupted. There is a new version out, but the advantage perceived by Rollback is now miniimal to me so I am having trouble wanting to fool with it.

    Hi YankinCrankin

Couple of other minor things. The restore with FDISR is no more or less secure than rebooting, since that is in essence what you are doing. In case your wondering what else I do for security:

Hardware firewall, Outpost, KAV 6.0,SSM 2.0, Online Armor, Ghost Security Suite, and Lucidlink which is a radius server protecting the wireless network.
Knock on wood, so far it has kept my system clean as a whistle, and I am net connected generally 12-15 hours a day.

Hey Peter thanks for the extra info Im kind of stuck right now on which product to buy however i did fill out the forms and got the demos 14 day trial so ill give it a whirl. Dont wanna go off the subject but I got 2 different downloads of FDISR one I got from Raxco version 4.0.100.1190 (5.79MB) and another from Leapfrog version 7.4.262.0 (6.07MB) do you know if these 2 companies are affiliated? Anyways I currently have Raxco's Drive Vaccine installed seems to do what it says
I've been beta testing some other programs as well using the Drive Vaccine program works great. Thanks again Peter

FirstDefense-ISR was a co-development effort between Raxco Software and Leapfrog Software, Inc.

Leapfrog Software, Inc. (LSI) was founded in November 2001 and incorporated in June 2002 after an extensive marketing and development effort for FirstDefense-ISR.

The core code was developed by Todd Lear and is now distributed through several partners, including Raxco under the ISR First Defense Label.

I use RollbackRx Pro. I have a question about scheduler. I wanna taking daily snapshots. There is a daily schedule in Rollback but you must specify a time. My computer isn't running all the day and there isn't a specific time which my computer runs. So How can I take daily snapshots with scheduler?
