Ewido 4 lost its originality...

Please, don't get me wrong. I have just observed that the latest Ewido 4 has now some similarities with other anti-spywares I have ever seen and used before. Maybe for some... .. the new version looks pretty much better than its previous version 3.5, but for me version 4 GUI was just a kind of copy cat look alike with the others. The scanning styles looks similar to Sunbelt CounterSpy( CS even looks better than this, coz they've color), and all of the GUI colors in version 4 are orange, and everything are oranges ( my gosh, did they experimented w some other colors), and aside from that some ( or all) of the additional features they've add in was already available with other software programs in the net.

I know, that the scanning engine of Ewido was even better than the others, but I hope that they must have some kind of originality with their design interface so that users can really distinguish them that they are really using Ewido. Actually, I like the "Matrix" style look in their version 3.5 when the scanner is running, and it could be even be more to look better if it has some kind of color effects in it when its doing its scanning job. Of course it is not as important as the protection and scanning detection capability, but looks can be also one of the reason why people like or bought the products. That's why car companies are doing everything they can just to enhance the artistic look of their vehicle.

toolbox on the left side.

 

I don't know if you knew this but one of the very first releases of Ewido (I believe version V1 'till V2 already included the shredder and xp antispy feature (long before CS did)

so in fact there is nothing new at all except for the icon and the orange color and internal optimisations .. ..

 

... and the ignore list, the scheduler, the lsp viewer, the bho viewer, the language selection(Tray menu), the internal reportviewer, adjustable update intervall, SOCK4 Proxy support

 

haven't gotten my hands on v4 yet, but who cares about the GUI, I want it to be just as good or better then the previous version, if it does what it's suppose to do, and does a great job @ it, then I'm a very happy customer. So many companies think a beautiful GUI is key to a great product, NOT, what's behind it is, and I'm hoping v4 lives up to what we were told

Those areas were already covered at my desk .. (that's why I didn't mention it - I should have mention it to be 100% correct in my responses but IMHO (!!) the new release does not add a lot security wise (perhaps new heuristics scanner/analyser or upgraded/better scan engine - some security enhancements under the hood)
the best enhancement for me personaly is the systray options when you right click on the icon.

 

Ok, you're right on that... but still for some artistic creative people the looks of a software's users interface has some effects on how he/she will decide if he/she will keep on using the software program. If the program is effective in finding malwares then it could be also a big plus if it is good looking. Pleasing to the eye, aside from ease of use, elegant and can inspire us to use it with confidence. Sports cars, etc have this thing and I hope the programs that we use too.

In the past, I have already uninstalled several programs on my machine coz they look lifeless and colorless. Then, replace them with programs that does the same job but with an added "life on their looks" pleasing to my eye.

I am just hoping that Ewido can add more of its originality on its GUI programs
and not with an all orange look. Actually, lots of oranges I have already eaten in my life, and here it is another orange flavor. He, he, he,...

 

Well since someone started this conversation don't you think that the program is a bit too greyish?
I mean the orange colour that they have added is nice but I think they should use as a background a more live colour than grey.
Maybe a very light tone of blue or something similar.What do you think?

I believe that bitdefender 9 has the most beautiful gui among security products.
By the way don't get me wrong ...I would never use a program because of its nice gui.
Better be a command prompt program and do its job rather than one with beautiful and intuitive gui that doesnt do its job correctly.

 

LOL ... maybe we need skins as to please everyone for its color preference.
I on the other hand don't have any problem with the GUI.
It's well organized, besides it's still a beta so change can happen.

For me as long as it does the job, I don't mind what color the GUI has.
I do mind however how it's organized, so you don't have to search long to do whatever you want to do.

I also don't mind at all the extra additions, even if they duplicate some programs I already have.
Time to do some cleaning afterwards anyway.

 

But, that implies that most think like yourself, some would undoubtedly uninstall if too much eyecandy is used, i personally find it annoying if too much eyecandy is used and actually find the 4.0 GUI a big improvement. I would think even for artistic/creative people effective malware detection and ease of navigating the GUI would be a lot more important about their anti-trojan than eyecandy.

 

Well thats probably wrong Don Pelotas.Windows would never sell that many copies if it wasnt for the gui because they would all be using the powerful and stable Unix or Linux also they wouldn't be using MS Office but VIM instead.

However, i still think detection, new technologies, inpact on system is more important than a pretty GUI (& i actually do think it's better than 3.5) when you decide which AT to use.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but MS Office and Vim do completely different things. Compare Vim to Notepad and tell me which one is more powerful.

Firstly ,I am talking about the command prompt version of VIM.
Secondly, have you ever tried to create a C program in notepad to see how nerve wrecking it can become?
Notepad vs VIM is like comparing a bow to F-22 raptor.
The only downside is that you 'll have to memorize hundreds of commands .Once you do that you'll never go back to Office crapware.

 

I am perfectly aware of that. I use VIM to code. In fact, I probably use VIM more than any other program in existence.

 

i don't mind the new look, i like thew new logo. But i do like the old ewido a tad better.... the matrix thing was cool... and the big alarm thing rocked lol. i ran it on my friends computer... she jumped every time it found something.. it found 73 objects lol it was hilarious. but then again a silent scan isnt that bad either... but like the post says, not original. If i had a choice to have something pop up and tell me what it found with a big alarm in 4.0... i'd choose it lol.
