Anyone having problems running a full scan with Ad-aware (free version)?

Ad-aware will just die and stop scanning if Amon is enabled, but will complete if Amon is disabled.

Probably a Ad-aware problem but I thought I'd just ask.

No problems ever with NOD32 version 1 and Ad-aware.

I have noticed the same problem, it scans for about 2/3 minutes then stops responding.

I have Spybot S&D along with Adaware (Free version) and have no problems with either completing their scan. Yes, I have NOD32 Version 2 installed also.

Tested here under Windows XP Pro: no problem... but you know, every PC is a world apart.
Anyway, when it is possible I strongly advice to disable AMON when you use other AV/AT scanners: AMON is light like a feather, nevertheless it will scan in background every file opened by the scanner, slowing noticeably the scanning.

    ciao,
    Paolo.

Anyway, when it is possible I strongly advice to disable AMON when you use other AV/AT scanners: Good recommendation Paolo Monti. I hadn't thought of it when I posted first in this thread but I do disable NOD32 while scanning with Spybot and Adaware, and for that matter my anti-trojan program. So of course I'd have no hang-up caused by NOD32. duh!

No problems here with Win98; but I remember that sometimes with some AV (cannot remember the exact circumstances) the scan takes really long and it seems as if it stops responding...but after some 20-25 mins continues nevertheless...maybe it's just a huge delay.

I've been reading reports on several forums from people that have AdAware "hang." This seems to be an AdAware problem, and not related to NOD32. Different people report different files that cause AdAware to slow down or even stop for awhile.

Turning off AMON may or may not solve the problem.

Thanks for all the replies. I should have mentioned that I was running XP Pro.

The recommendation to switch off Amon while using Ad-aware seems to be the way to go.

I would just add that Ad-aware seems to create temporary extensionless files for each item or file it checks (deleting and recreating as it scans) and I did have Amon set to check all files not the default files.

The jury is still out on this one. Thanks again.

:) Adaware version 6 build 181 has just been realeased. Also when you scan with adaware it doesn't have the problem with stopping or freezing up at certain point as it did in version 6 buid 161. Also the scan is much faster then the previous build. I didn't have to stop AMON for the scan to finish on my system. just wanted to update this part of the thread.

    Hi,

Just thought i'd add my 2cents worth here.

Because Amon scanns files as they are accessed whether by manually starting them or even been scanned by another program (such as Ad-aware) it can and does slow the system down.

That being said: I like that feature and use it regularly to scan my system.. as it kills 2 birds with 1 stone :)
