Some Questions Before I Install

Hi,

I've been a registered user of TDS3 and Wormguard for quite some time now. I'm thinking of trying Port Explorer. I've been reading and I still have a few questions.

I'm running Win2K SP2 with Nod32 V.2 and Outpost Ver. 1 free behind a router. I have TDS3, Wormguard, BoClean and IEClean. I also have AWPTA 1.1 with provider not installed, I rarely use it. There is other stuff but I think this is what matters. Are there any problems with Port Explorer and Nod32 Ver.2 (not BETA)? Any problems with Outpost ver. 1 free? Any problems with AWPTA 1.1 without the provider installed?

What can I expect with the trial version? Is anything crippled? If I do use the trial version and decide to buy it, can I just add the keyfile to the trail copy and continue using it or uninstall and reinstall a different program?

Since I don't need to buy TDS3 and Wormguard again, how about a discount for us long time users who have been with you for years?

I have used Port Explorer for probably six weeks with both Nod32 v2.0 and TDS3 running in their resident modes all the time with no problems at all on WinXP home.

I can't answer your other questiuons but it has been very trouble free and easy to use. I am still on a learning curve with it-but the assistance here is excellent. (I knew nothing about it to start with). I love it!

Any idea what the minor restrictions are? It seems very silly to have restrictions in a trial version. I've read here that there are safeguards built in to prevent people from running it longer than the trial. It appears (though not confirmed yet) there is a seperate download for registered versions and for trial versions. I just don't understand the "thinking behind this.

Having a full version as a trial just leads to cracks appearing that bypass the protections. Patches for "days left" checks and things like that are too easy, and would mean many less users actually buy the program unfortunately

Port Explorer is heavily protected against piracy - there is no way to make a key generator for it, and no crack for the trial version(s), even if there was a crack for the timelimit, a few key features removed means we can develop much better products in the future Almost all profits from DiamondCS products go back into development and funding for future programs, this is how it has always been and will always be..

I would suggest you simply try the trial version, as it is very much like the full version. There is no reason not to, the uninstall is clean, just uninstall before installing the full version if you buy. The restrictions are marked in the menus with a * for disabled features, such as maximum log sizes. This is a simple restriction, you can still try out the logging capabilities

 

Hi Budman, the only FEATURE left out is the Lookup Utility. It allows you to enter IP addresses to resolve to countries, search the port database, domain to country lookup, things like that. It isn't that big a feature. There are some other restrictions like a "3 second refresh" interval on the main display, instead of allowing you to choose it. If you actually USE the program it will show you what menu items, etc, you can't click on by displaying an asterix next to it. And there is only about 6 or so menu items we won't allow you to click on in the trial version.

Even if we removed half the features Port Explorer has no other port to process mapper would come close, so think of the extra features you get when you register as "little gifts" for buying a good product.

And we profit with top notch security unveiling all there is, even with the other tool for registered users only to add processes even before started, the throttle, etc.

Everything looks great so far. I'm going to play with it for a while and get used to it. I may not have much time to play with it for a week or so. Thanks for the nudge.
