Hi, I have NOD32 v.2.5 but looking at the
Anti-Virus Comparative test I notice AntiVirusKit seems the best antivirus 2006.
    http://www.av-comparatives.org/
How do you value that test?
I surf in Internet very much and I receive many infected emails every day around the world and I need a very effective antivirus.
In your opinion is NOD32 better than AntiVirusKit?
    thanks

Also look at the "Retrospective/Proactive test" to know how well an antivirus protects against unknown/new malware (heuristic detection). AntiVirusKit hasn't been through such a test yet at AV-Comparatives, but since it uses KAV engine (and BitDefender engine if I remember right), it should be about the same, maybe a little higher (because of the BitDefender engine).

I like NOD32 best of all AV, mostly because it's so light and has strong heuristics (and also other reasons like a web scanner etc.).

As IBK said both are very good products and will provide excellent protection. As you say you already have NOD I would say stick with it, you are not going to get any better protection from AVK. If you base your decision on what is the best AV after each test Andreas does you will bounce around a bit. Stick with one of the Advanced +'s and you are fine. As to which approach is better, NOD's heuristics or KAV based products with frequent updates, it comes down to personal preference as both sides of the aisle have valid arguments. What works on your system and what you are comfortable with setting up and using are the MOST important factors, not whether a product finishes 1st or 4th in Andreas's testing. Remember he is testing a large database of zoo malware along with current ITW stuff. While his test's are probably the most thorough and reliable available even he says there is not much difference among the products in each each class ie.. Advanced+, Advanced and Standard.
So personally, I would say switching fom NOD to AVK would be a waste of money and time having to reconfigure it and learn a new product. If you are happy with it stick with NOD, in the next test NOD will almost assuredly flex it's heuristc muscle and place in the top 2 or 3 for sure, most likely 1st again.

I believe that you'll be protected with AVK... more than NOD32...
And I think that AVK is low cost too...
In my opinion, is the best for now...

I disagree, when I look at the results, I see that NOD and AVK(a KAV based product) are not that far apart in the On Demand tests, yet in the last retrospective test NOD picked up 50% of the ITW viruses heuristiccally, KAV had 0, in other words even without definition updates NOD has a 50/50 chance of catching new viruses where as KAV has none. So I base my choice on a product that scores Advanced+ in both tests, not just one. When AVK is tested in this retrospective coming up in Nov perhaps I will change my advice but for now I would say stay with what you have.

Hmm, yeah this AV is real real good, i think...
I found some info about it on their page. Some question and answers from them:

They have also passed many other av - test's... And they have a very strong Heuristic detection. They update's almost every single hour too.

Now here you have alot of Info about it :)....

I wasn't knocking AVK, I was saying the OP should not leave his AV Just because it doesn't WIN one test, I also suggested that MY guidlines are Advanced+ in both tests which only 2 products have done in the last two tests Andreas has done, NOD and BitDefender, AVK uses the BD engine along with KAV, so yes it has potential to be a kick ass product, KAV defs with excellent heuristics, not quite up to NOD but closer than any other product. But for the OP to suggest that NOD was crap and he was dumping it because AVK won this particular test is a bad idea in my opinion. NOD, KAV and BD are in my view the best of the breed and you are well served by any of them to include AVK as it uses 2 of the 3. Wasting the money to switch because of a test result is silly, now if it was due an incompatibilty somewhere yes I could see switching. That was what I based my advice not, not on knocking AVK, I did leave it open to say I could change my view based upon Nov's test as well.

If you have an older computer then IMO, NOD is much the better bet.

Compared to older versions of AVK, this newer one is, IME, heavier in real time because of the extra features including the HTTP scanner. The AVK RTM slowed down my new desktop considerably.

Further, if both engines are enabled for on-demand scanning then this can cause definite slowdowns compared to the single-engine settings.

English support or the lack of it in this case may also need to be considered before you make a choice about this AV.

So AVK in this test may seem to give slightly better protection than NOD but as flyrfan111 has stated, I would not select an AV on the basis of this one test. And other factors apart from detection levels need to be considered before making a final decision.

Stick with NOD at least until your license runs out. THEN if you are still not happy you can consider another AV.

Detection levels are not the only criteria to select an AV otherwise we would all be using/switching to AVK/F-Secure/KAV or KAV-based clones.

...as an AVK 2006 user who will buy NOD for another computer very soon, I hope I can get theses too ! :D

Between theses two AV, all is about to know how much ressources you're ready to dedicate to your av : I have AVK 2006 and really like it, but it's far more heavier than NOD on the computer... ; that should be OK on a recent computer, and if you don't plan to run several other security apps along - and you've to know it's proxy can be tiresome to use with some firewalls.

Then NOD is more pleasant and "easy" to run on most computers ;) .

    Cheers,

You have seen that Online Armour will include the Kaspersky engine in the next version haven't you? Just thought i'd mention that since you use OA (nice product btw).

I agree about AVK 2006, it't too heavy for my taste too, which is a shame, because version 2005 was a lot lighter IME, must be the new OutbreakShield & http scan.:)

Yes, I'm testing it for few weeks now ;) . Well, OA will soon have its place in the "Other AVs" subforum too ! :D

I agree about AVK 2005, it was ways more light than 2006, and the culprit is without a doubt the http scanner - even if the main engine was itself about 15 000 k in RAM in 2005, and is now 35 000 too. I'm still glad to run it, but it could for sure be optimized; I hope for 2007 version :) .

    Cheers,

How about because KAV 6.0 hasn't been officially released yet?

Most of the malware I happen across, especially by email, is stuff that is brand new and only detected by NOD32's heuristics. I'd say that if you want to increase your protection you would gain a lot more by adding something else that is made to compliment your AV, there is lots to choose from.

It will be interesting to see how KAV6 compares. I realize that since it is due to be on the market on 15 May, it won't be tested in the next test.

KAV6 is even lighter than NOD on my machines, and the scan times are much shorter also.

The true potential of AV's will not be seen in AV-Comparatives (although it's good test), because it's an on-mand scan test, different results would probably be seen is this was a real-time protection test made by executing malware, this would for example be the only way the true potential of Kaspersky 6.0's proactive defense would be seen.

Now we just need volunteers to execute the 474.759 samples (expect more in the next comparatives) by hand, SSK has accepted the challenge (i think;) ) and i would be willing to do a couple too! :D

I'd get myself a new email address before I thought of changing my AV.

BlueFrog really does help. It greatly reduced me receiving spam (down about 80% after three months use). I haven't used the new IE plug-in yet, but the BlueFrog FF extension works pretty great after 0.7x.
