I am in search of a multi-layered security approach utilizing Jetico as the firewall and I am wondering for those who use it, what other security tools play well with Jetico. Looking for AVs, ATs, IDS, HIPS, VMs, etc. recommendations based on a sound rationale.

    Tia,

No problem with Avast! V4.6 antivirus and Jetico, and Outclock as anti-spam.

    Hey Tom,

I would try processguard free and or prevx1 beta!

    prev free

    http://free.prevx.com/

With anti vir it runs ok but Jetico knocks off the anti vir guard but it is showing as running in taskmanager!

I tried it with antihook but antihook takes over and is very noisy!

I have also ran it with appdefend limited free version and it runs ok on my system with that!

Ewido and A2 also run well with it but running ewido's security guard is a bit of a slow down on startup.

Runs ok to with sentinel and watcher!

    I hope this helps!

    Hi khazars,

Hmm, I am already using Prevx1R and just yesterday noted back to the support team at Prevx that TooLeaky breached my firewall, and while Prevx1R had the right idea, it was too little, too late - however, that is not while running Jetico. Apparently, Prevx1R doesn't detect the "launcher" approach of one process launching another to hide its execution. TooLeaky lauches the default browser on port 80 to breach the firewall outbound.

I previously ran ZA Free alongside my AV's personal firewall, and TooLeaky beat my firewall combo then as well.

I recently dumped ZA Free since the new version of the AV personal firewall now stealths all of the ports and notifies the user of all outbound connection attempts (that aren't hidden).

Because my AV's personal firewall is tightly coupled (entangled) with network worm and outbreak detection, if I disable the firewall, then I lose the feature of the network worm and outbreak detection which is one of its best features. Due to this design conundrum, I am considering another firewall and AV, but for the moment I wanted to solicit some learned from experience opinions from Wilders. Too bad I resubscribed my AV recently.

It looks like I should give Process Guard Free a try!

    Cheers,

It sounds like he is describing NAV, but who knows o_O The worm shield is actually not that great, so he needs to be told the truth :D

With Jetico, I use NOD32 (AV), Online Armor (control program execution, web and mail filtering) and Regdefend (registry protection) and that's enough for me because Jetico includes all HIPS feature that I need (access to network, process creation and modification, access directly to memory, global hooking and so on)

PC-cillin Internet Security 2006 personal firewall. In post #4 I mentioned that I recently dumped ZA Free.
