Or are most people using DMON and EMON as well? Are they necessary?

I am running Outlook 2003 and Office 2003 on Windows XP SP2.

I have disabled only EMON since I don't use Microsoft Outlook at all.
But I have enabled everything else at maximum security settings.

we have all turned on EXCEPT EMON - as we don't use exchange. We have some 1Gig machines sat around for browser compatibility testing and they don't struggle at all using this setup.

DMON will ONLY scan Office documents if you use MS Office. Otherwise it won't do anything (even if you open DOC files in OpenOffice).

IMON scans for mails and internet traffic (downloads).

well, strange that AMON scans also Office documents. o_O Or DMON is only for opened Office docs, and AMON for transfering, opening, etc docs?

Actually, I have found that DMON also scans some ActiveX applets that are totally independent of Office.

I leave them all on (except for on servers obviously)...it's so light, hardly matters.

Thanks to ESET for Updating the EMON FAQ section with an explanation that Does Not cause more questions than answers. When it's clear to me, that's doing something. (ie) update: "EMON also works with Microsoft Outlook 2000 (or newer) when using the MAPI, POP3 or IMAP protocols to connect with Microsoft Exchange and other mail servers." Outlook 2002/03 was not supported earlier and many would post in a way that seemed confused as to whether EMON was relevant just because you use Outlook, or because it was via Exchange (VS. POP3 that I use). The "if, ands, and buts" of AV's, I know, are hard to clarify in every post, but this is a nice change.
