Does LnS use NDIS IM driver or NDIS miniport driver in internet filtering. Some firewall use NDIS miniport driver, are they better?

    Hi apm,

Look 'n' Stop uses an NDIS IM driver.

LnS is light and powerful in application and rule packet control, but I wonder why it is so poor in stateful inspection. Other firewalls like 8Signs use NDIS driver too but don't have SPI connections limit problem, but whenever I use SPI in LnS, it just keeps blocking my connections.:doubt:

Are you using the 2.05p3 version ? There was some improvements in this version about the TCP SPI.

    Thanks,

    Frederic

That is still a big problem for me also; I must have it disabled permanently because of my every day activities which Look ‘n’ Stop SPI interferes with, only SPI implementation I have ever saw to be of such annoyances!

Now this is off-topic, but anyway:
Is it possible to start a poll in this forum regarding "What feature of LNS should be improved by Frederic with highest priority?"

In my case it is not SPI, but rather LNS not starting properly when logging off -> login in, logoff->login. I change my user login several times a day (between Admin and limited user), and the double icon of LNS or sometimes even the missing start of LNS is a pain.

There might be different wishes from others, though ;)

    Thomas :)

    Hey Thomas M

Which start-up method you have for Look ‘n’ Stop?

Yea I agree this here one should be Top priority, but shouldn’t be difficult task to fix.

    Hello PhantOm,

    My computers are running...
    - the latest LnS 2.05p3
    - including beta features (activated through the *.reg file)
    - "Options", Automatic start: NONE
    - "Options", registry keys: COMMON TO ALL USERS

    Thomas :)

The problem is that Windows is closing all applications including Look 'n' Stop when a user log off. I didn't find a way to prevent that.
So there is a mechanism in the service to restart Look 'n' Stop. But this doesn't work well, for some other reasons.

If looknstop.exe could have been not closed when a user logs off it would be easier. And it is really possible to have it running when no user are logged because this is what happens at 1st start.
