This was posted today in Fred Langa's newsletter. If he has not heard of Nod32, it really says something about the need for Nod32 to advertise.

    " NOD32?

I'd though I'd heard of all the antivirus tools there are--- and in fact, thought we'd mentioned almost all of them at one time or another in the newsletter. Well, I was wrong:

Fred, In the latest installment of the Langa List you mentioned that Norton was one of the best, if not the best, commercial anti-virus programs available. I have been receiving E-Mail responses from various clients indicating that I had a virus in the documents I was sending. Now, I had Norton 2001 installed on my computer and had all of my updates current. I uninstalled Norton and installed NOD32 to see what it would find. Sure enough, NOD32 found the very viruses the E-Mails told me of. I went to the website http://www.nod32.com and had a look. I would highly recommend this anti-virus program. It is fast and very effective. --- Les

Thanks, Les! Always good to learn of a new--- and heretofore unknown (to me)--- option!"

I was wrong about todays' newsletter. It was posted in the Nov. 11, 2001 newsletter. I had clicked a link in today's newsletter and it took me back to that one. But I still think that Esset might do a bit more advertising.

Average computer users will probably only know of the big two AV's; Norton and McAfee as these are the ones which are either supplied with a new AV or the only AV products available in your local computer store.

However, here in the UK, a number of the best selling Computer magazines regularly carry a full-page ad for NOD so it is becoming more well-known here. Further, apart from the big two, it is the only AV I have seen that receives this full-star treatment! So Eset are making a good effort here to try and attract Home users to a better product.

They've been advertising fairly strong in the United States for the past year. Many issues of PCWorld and PCMagazine have half or full page ads from Eset.

I had heard about NOD a long time ago but had been put off by comments about the difficulty in configuring it (I am in the UK)
I had been using CA for several years before I took the plunge and then found BS's settings!

I know that I am not the only one 'put off' by the comments about configuration - so I think some advertising to put the record straight would be a good thing.

    That or V3 :D

I'm not doubting you, but that seems hard to believe. o_O I mean NOD32 is headquartered in Slavakia right? If they are mostly unknown in Eastern Europe, they have some marketing problems. :doubt:

Wow that really surprises me. I thought it would be better known throughout Europe then it is here in the U.S. I know this is the NOD forum, but one quick question if I may. Is KAV well known in Europe?

    No, not really.
Mcafee / Symantec - Norton are like Microsoft, preinstalled on almost all PC's, discounts for schools / students etc. Only people who are interested know different brands.

Oh dear! I suggest you subscribe to his (free) newsletter. The style is American (obviously) but even you will learn a lot :) He raves about NOD32 when he can and it's his AV of choice.

PC Pro, in the UK has been carrying full-page ads for months now.

It comes out Monday and Thursday with the odd break for holidays. You can pay a small subscription for an enhanced version but start with the free one and see what you think.

If you've got a website checkout the feature for a link exchange. You will get plenty of hits after your's is published :D
