I hope this to be the right forum for my concerns.
NOD 32 v.l is my present AV program, having just
re-upped for another year in April'03. Will it be
proper for me to apply for v.2 at his time or should I wait until next April. What chages can be
expected if the newer version is requested?

Question #2: Actually a problem which I don't understand..Recently, I downloaded Diamond CS program RPDAMIN v.1, from a link on this website.
Since the download, the AMON icon has disappeared
from the taskbar. Could this be due to some incompatibility with the Diamond program or should
I look elsewhere...I need and want to run the
AMON part of NOD32..Don't want to be caught dead
    without NOD32....

My level of experience is moderate, so any advice
should be couched in non-technical terms if at all
    possible.

Your current NOD license entitles you to upgrade to NOD 2 at no charge. All program upgrades, updates and virus definition updates are available to you during the term of your license.

Since NOD 1 won't be supported much longer by Eset (only perhaps a couple months more per Eset in another thread here) you'll have to upgrade to NOD 2 anyway.

As for your other issue, I can't help. And as it's the weekend, Eset staff may not respond until Monday. But you also could try posting in the Diamond CS forum here since it involves one of their products, if you haven't done so already.

Also, have you checked running tasks on your pc to see if Amon is still running? While the icon may hve disappeared, the program likely is still running. Have you rebooted since this happened? Did you unload (turn off) Amon before you nstalled the other software? (Ususally turning off AV and other running programs is recommended before you install another program.) You should provide Eset (and the Diamond staff) with as much info as you can about what you did before installing the other app and also what OS you're running.

    Hope that helps. :)

If you download the later verson of NOD32 that will probably solve all your problems in one hit. Especially as version 2 of NOD32 has only one icon residing in the systen tray for you to worry about.

Thank you SIG and Thank you LINNY !

Diamond CS can expect mail from me shortly, and I
shall procede to download NOD 32 today.

Maybe, what I will do is to get the v.2 first and
see if the icon business just disappers.

This Forum has as much credibility (with me) as
    does the ESET group.....

Just a note, although ESET says that you can install version 2 over version 1, just from comments here by users reporting issues, it seems that perhaps it is best to uninstall NOD 1, reboot and then install version 2.

Once again SIG, thank you for the advice..I shall
uninstall v.1 , reboot and then install v.2.

It gives me the 'willies' to download from the net without AV protection, but what has to be, has to be..

I usually download what I want from the net first (put it in my downloaded files folder) and don't install it until after I've uninstalled the previous version and rebooted. Which in this case is your AV. So your AV can be working when you download, although ESET is a trusted source, of course and then it's been uninstalled when you install the new version.

Oh, and by the way, I shut down Amon before I uninstalled NOD 1. I just try to be cautious. Then after I rebooted I went back to my downloads folder and installed version 2.

    Hope I haven't confused you. ;)

The additional advice is received with thanks!

When the dust has settled, I plan to make a report
    here on this thread.
Have been busy with other interests and will probably wait until late to do the install.

    VENI VEDI VICI !!!

With the help and encourgement of those on this thread, I now am the proud user of NOD32v.2.
It was an almost painless task..all except the
shutdowns/re-boots and mental stress that the right
    buttons had been pushed.

Nearly everything seems to be normal, but there is
one thing which has me concerned..I run "Mail Washer" as spam protection and to keep from putting all that junk on my disc.....NOW, when I
try to activate MW there is a popup saying that
connection has been denied. The mail still comes
in but MW is not effective...further advice is
    welcomed.
    P.S. - my system is IE 6 with OE 6 on a Win 98SE
    box.
P.P.S - I have NO worries of virus activity Now...

Perhaps your Anti Spam program and NOD32's Imon mail scanning program are fighting over access to your mail server.

You could try uninstalling and then reinstalling Mail Washer and see if that fixes it.

Or if that doesn't fix it have a read of this post and try the suggestions mentioned.

I haven't used MailWasher or any other antispam program so I can't think how to set it up with the email client and make it work with IMON. You can either start a new thread just about that or first wait and see if someone pops by in this one who can help. And again, the ESET folks should be visiting here for sure after the weekend.

Frankly, I'd be interested to know myself. I've been thinking of getting some program like that, although the majority of my spam is taken care of by my ISP's spam filter (thank goodness). But some still slips through.

Hmm... The old POP3-scanner worked as a proxy, but the new IMON doesn't. Make sure that you have the server/port correct in MailWasher. It's possible that you have it set to the old POP3-scanner way (localhost and a port instead of pop.isp.com and port 110).

    Best regards,
    Anders

    Thanks, Anders, Linney and Sig..

I had already tried the uninstall/re-install \ Mail Washer. No joy !
Will now look into the port settings and if the
problem continues, I may start another thread (as
suggested)for this is getting pretty far afield.

This is one GREAT Forum...A special thanks to the
    folks at Wilders and ESET.
