    Hi Everyone,

After much effort I have created a bootable USB flash drive. Now to save myself having to repeat most of this work I would like to create an image of this drive that I could later restore to the same or another flash drive, keeping its bootability intact.

I have tried to do this with TI-9.0, but it will not let me image or clone the flash drive. [Just to be clear, I am talking about creating an image OF the flash drive, not storing an image of my hard drive ON the flash]. When attempting to create an image, the flash drive never appears in the disk/partition listing, and when attempting to clone I get an error box telling me I only have one drive.

I also have a external USB hard drive, and this one seems to allow both functions. Am I doing something wrong, or is there some fundamental difference between a USB flash drive and a USB hard drive as far as TI is concerned? Thanks.

Yes there is a difference. My 2 GB USB flash drive is recognized as a USB hard drive - Windows lets me create NTFS partition and writes Recycler and System Volume Information into it. My 256 MB flash drive is recognized as a USB flash drive - like a floppy disk. I don't know if it is the size or the identification.

Consequently, I can clone the 2 GB USB flash drive with TI.

I normally have a USB mouse, a USB hard drive enclosure, and a USB optical image scanner connected. Occasionally I plug in the 2 GB USB flash drive to sync the data. So, yeah.

    Hello mmarcs1,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Please be aware that Acronis True Image 9.0 has a capability of creating a disk\partition images of local hard drives only (including USB ones).

Please also note that Acronis True Image 9.0 allows creation of Bootable Rescue Media on CD, pack of floppy disks or USB Flash Drive, but only if latter is recognized by Windows as a removable media.

It is easy to see now that these two facts prevent one from imaging drives which can be used for Bootable Rescue Media creation and vice versa.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

    Thank you.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Could you please clarify what the issue is exactly?

Please let us know what exact version and build number of Acronis True Image you use. You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window. Do you receive any error, warning of informational messages? What exact messages? When exactly do you receive them? What operating system is installed on your computer? Please describe actions taken before the problem appears step-by-step.

    Thank you.
