I've seen in print & online where alot of professionals like this piece of software. I'm not impressed as it uses CA as it's antivirus which IMHO isn't that hot...I'd like to know what others think... personally I wouldn't use it...

Unfortunately a lot of people have a bad impression of CA's Antivirus offering (used by ZA). From what I have read and experienced it is a lot better then people think. It is light on resource, scanns are no longer than some of what are called 'the bigger hitters', it is updated signature-wise very regularly and Virus Bulletin has given it its 100% award on a number of occassions.

It complements the excellent firewall and that is why "alot of professionals like this piece of software". I would recommend that you take the trial and see what you think.

In terms of KIS 2006; sounds good but given the complexity it is likely to take time to go Final, etc.....but should be worth a try when release properly. I would just be concerned about resource usgae as it is try ing to do so much.

    Hope this helps?

    Best regards

I thought it seemed pretty good in my limited experience with it. It seemed to catch all of the web nasties like the others usually do (except AVG). I didn't do any real testing, but I saw nothing wrong with it. I have a feeling that it's much better than people give it credit for being as mentioned above. Else why would ZoneLabs choose it to incorporate into their otherwise great product?

because zonelabs is owned by Checkmark who owns CA??...also on trial it will cut your bandwidth by 33%, might be tight firewall wise but IMHO it's too tight ... granted light on mem but in my trials it's heavy on the system...

I get the opposite experience with the ZA Suite. I find it doesn't effect my bandwidth or speed at all, however, it does take a large chunk out of my ram. Guess it's different on every system...

Also, I think you're referring to 'Checkpoint', who owns ZoneLabs. I don't believe they also own CA (I could be wrong though, I really am not sure)..

that's strange but with todays software industry not surprising. Programs are getting so large & I mean more than just AV/ Internet Suites, that everything can't run perfectly when released & doesn't impact everyone in the same way...

Yes Zone Labs is owned by Checkpoint. And no, Checkpoint does not own CA which is a big company too. I believe CA's shares on the U.S. stock market are still there.

EZ antivirus is just that, Easy. I think a lot of people are afraid of it because it's essentially preconfigured. A lot of people like to play with their software. As far as I know, EZ antivirus, used by Zonealarm is ICSA certified which, to me counts more than the various tests. It uses the Vet engine, which is pretty good. It was very light on my system when I checked it out. I doubt it's in the Kaspersky league, but I think it rates right up there with most of the rest.

If zonealarm's AV was performing so well, why do you think they declined to participate in the recent testing?.I'll tell you why.Like most AV'S on the market today, it does well with viruses but its the other forms of malware like trojans, worms that it's having troubles with.I'm sure IBK sent an invitation to the EZ Antivirus people.IBK?.

Its up to the companies to submit the engines used for tests. For example, Zone Labs did not submit their Firewall engine to ICSA Lab for testing but CA went ahead and submitted the True Vector engine to ICSA and got it certified.

Wonderful debate that will end up going around in circles. The moral of the story is don't debate it.......try it. In the end that is what counts as what may be good/fine for one is dire for another.

Always found Norton good (until recently) despite some my friends having real trouble with it on their PCs. They swore by McAfee......which trashed my PC.

Tired ZASS (after falling out of love with NIS2006) and bought a licence. As it is only for a year I may try ZIS 2006 when it comes out. And who knows, eh?

I have used it with dial up) and liked it. I think it is popular as it has good protection and many features but still easy to configure for a newbie without lot of knowledge. I feel basically it has its name due to it trpled defence firewall only, otherwise AV is usuall one and spyware part is jsut ordinary. And don,t forget ordinary user does not want too many pop ups and a constant play with the settings. I will definitely prefer over NIS, TMIS etc if ever I have to choose a complette suite.
