In my opinion,ProcessGuard is a little better than Appdefend.

I have them both on my pc...:D

AppDefend "effectively supplements" the gaps of my PG free...;)

There's no way for me to compare this two babes coz both of them have free versions, and that am glad they're still very effective, loyal of protecting my system, and does its job without troubles.

AppDefend can control network access, acting as a simple outbound-only firewall. Process Guard does not have this feature. AppDefend is still in beta testing. Process Guard is a finished product.

There are some other differences. See this thread for comments from Ghost Security and others about the topic: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=114223

Neither. Get a good firewall and AV, then supplement that with FDISR and Image for Windows. Store any mission critical data on a seperate partition, or preferably, a seperate hard drive and back up your data onto an external source (i.e. an external hard drive). PG is buggy and under developed. AD is not ready yet. A major advantage that AD has over PG is the developer.

PG is still the most popular HIPS among Wilders members despite the negative criticism that the demise of TDS has brought to DiamondCS.

    Osaban,
I'm not disputing your claim regarding PGs popularity because, honestly, I had to look up the meaning of HIPS. I just want to know the basis for which the claim is made.

If you care to check any poll on this forum which had to do with 'current set-ups', '...Running only 4 applications, what would you choose...' etc, you'll realize PG is still the most preferred application for this type of software (HIPS). How long this will last only time will tell as there are alternatives that are potentially as good as PG or even better (AppDefend). Competition is always very welcomed to have the state of the art in anti malware technology.

The standard response to guest would be to try them out, and pick the one that seems to create less problems on his system. As for PG being buggy, I agree with you about the new betas, but then again they are betas, are they not? Version 3.150 is fine on most systems.

the one big advantage that appdefend has, imho, is it lets u individually configure each area of protection (memory access, drivers, etc) to allow/prompt/block. the fact that it has a prompt is great. with PG, it just automatically blocks services, hooks, etc. Even in Learning Mode, PG will initially block those things.

True .. PG has been the standard for practicaly two years now .. but I see a lot changing too .. Even Spywaredoctor and SpySweeper are kerneldriven atm, boclean, Ewido, .. ..

At the moment, albeit AppDefend being beta, I'm having it installed, while PG isn't (for the first time in a very long time) .. we only had two real choices: PG or SSM :) back then PG was finished, SSM wasn't.

.. Most of the times AppDefend is even faster then the protection of KIS2006, so that's nice..

that's another reason why I prefer AppDefend..
