While we're on the discussion here re AV software I need to clarify some points or questions.

    1. When we say Heuristics what do we mean. Is this the accuracy of detection?

    2. Bidefender uses Hive is their version of Heuristics ?

    3. Does AntiVir Free use the same engine as their premium paid edition and the \
    same heuristics and detection ?

    4. I believe eTrust uses the VET engine or is it the Incoulate engine. Does
eTrust AV scan both incoming and outgoing emails ?

I recall a while bac my first AV I got was eTrust EZ Armor this was when I was on dial up before updating to broadband at a later stage from than I switched to NOD32, but I can say I was quite happy with eTrust and its updates on dial up were very good, and I'm sure it would be the same as on broadband as well.

No, word "heuristics" defines detection method through good/bad thresholding. With "heuristics" you can detect stuff thats not yet included in regular standard pattern signatures. Heuristics analyze the file and then decides whether it's bad or good. Check for word "heuristic" in any english dictionary (www.dictionary.com should be ok).

    2. Bidefender uses Hive is their version of Heuristics ?
HiVE is just a brand name of heauristics used in their AV solution.
Just like Norman Sandbox, Symantec Bloodhound Heuristics or NOD32 ThreatSense. Companies give them various names so it sounds cool ;)

    3. Does AntiVir Free use the same engine as their premium paid edition and the \
    same heuristics and detection ?

Yes and no. Engine and signatures itself are the same. Difference is in the threats category. Premium version also covers spyware, while Classic edition doesn't cover this area. They do cover the most obvious and bad ones but not all of them. In premium you can expect full detection range.

    4. I believe eTrust uses the VET engine or is it the Incoulate engine. Does

Depends. The eTrust EZ AV uses InnocuilateIT Engine. eTrust Antivirus and or other solutions from CA use both, Innoculate and VET.
Yes, eTrust EZ AV scans the mail. Not sure if in both directions but i can confirm it does scan the inbound mails.

Well RejZoR dont be so sure about it... Because if bitdefender will come near the Nod32 ThreatSense they must work much harder then they are doing now only with the HiVE Heuristic and forgott about signatures just for one or two days...
And even if Bitdefender come's closer the Nod32 ThreatSense, do not forgett that Nod32 does not just stay and watch they also upgrading to a better one soon on version 3, so even if Bitdfender maybe comes closer nods ThreatSense i belive nod is maybe a step forward, but i dont know.
I just hope that they both will come to good Heuristic's.

They both use very similar technique. NOD32 is using it longer so they know the tricks and stuff but Softwin developed the technology from the ground so they also have the expertiese for such stuff.

Which engine does eTrust EZ Armor Security Suite use for its antivirus.

And also is it possible to find this out on the program itself.

It's using InnoculateIT Engine. I think you can see this info in the About menu.
