Currently using Antivir 7 PCE (free edition). On the status tab of the control center, it says license is valid unitl 5/31/2006. What happens after that? Will the software stop working?

Supposedly it will be extended/renewed/updated prior to that expiration date automatically.

The sky will fall down, of course! :shifty:

There will simply be a new key, valid till 31/12/2006. That was done every year before, only the users didn't notice because the old GUI doesn't display the license expiration date. :)

Ok, thanks. While i have no doubt that the sky will fall down, I was hoping my antivirus software would be functioning correctly when said apocalyptic event occurred. :). I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some kind of activation step (e.g. AVAST emailing a license key).

No, AntiVir 7 PEC uses different way of licensing the freeware edition.
Alwil uses serial keys to track number of users while Avira keeps the track with unique random generated keys (which can be unchecked though).
Everything else was already explained by Stefan.
