BOClean 4.21 has been released. This new version improves performance in detecting and deleting all sorts of trojans, worms, bots, hijackers, downloaders, spam proxies, rootkits, adware, spyware, keyloggers, "dialers" and other malware. Yes, that’s right, we’ve been covering keyloggers for some time now, and they are becoming popular among identity thieves, as seen in today’s New York Times (subscription required):

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/27/technology/27hack.html

If the mass media is catching on, you can be sure the problem’s already rampant. Not to worry, BOClean keeps you covered, so there’s no need to run additional software (and lose system performance) to detect those pests.

What's new in BOClean 4.21? Note the new BOCORE service, a kernel monitor designed to catch nasties before they can "root." And for those who managed to grab "root," BOClean 4.21 can see them when your antivirus, antispyware and firewall CANNOT as BOClean always has been able to. The latest nasties can live at "kernel level" and hide from "user level," but BOClean 4.21's BOCORE *lives* in the bunker of the kernel level, unlike any other antimalware can do. BOCORE is only the beginning. We've seen the newest of nasties that can even hide at ROOT level, and that's the reason for BOClean 4.21 and the rush to get it out. When rootkits can hide from the kernel, there's serious nastiness ahead and BOClean 4.21 is ready once again with its baseball bat to take them out.

To upgrade any version of our software (excluding BOClean EDS customers), please email us at upgrade@nsclean.com. In your request, please include any or all of the following: Your order number, email address at the time of purchase, full name and the correct email address to send to. Once we confirm your request, your software will arrive in a reply email. If you are certain you can receive them, we will send an EXE or ZIP ONLY if you request those formats. Otherwise, we will send an encrypted file and instructions on how to get the decoder program download from us. This is a LOT easier than it may sound.

Please set up your email program to prompt for a file attachment storage location, this will expedite file installation. Saving the decoder and encrypted 001 file to the desktop will make the process very easy. Be sure that your firewall is set up to permit attachments to get through and be sure your ISP does not block attachments. Some web-based services do, if you have an alternate email address it would be helpful if you include it in your email. You'll get your software faster if you do. Please be patient, requests can take up to 24 hours to fill. Thanks for your cooperation.

For those of you who paid the extra couple of bucks for the "EXTENDED DOWNLOAD" when you purchased BOClean, you don't HAVE to wait - simply grab your original order and password and go directly back to the download site, redownload the "old version" which will magically be the NEW version when you receive it regardless of what the page says. You PAID for "enhanced service" and you GET it! No need to go through the "gauntlet of the freebie" if you went for the "extended download." :)

Must be some kind of record... I was sent the update 12 minutes after I requested it.

Yup, mine was equally as quick. Got in before the rush.

Seems to be much less invasive than all the 4.20.xxx versions. Will report back in a couple days.

    Thanks for the update!

I'm not getting the slow shutdown I was getting with 4.20.001 and 4.20.002. :D

Is startup times any quicker? I did not get my update until after I got to work today, so I will install it tonight.

Just curious how it's playing with other apps as well.

    Thanks. :D

I searched long & hard at NSClean's website but could not find BOClean's system requirements anywhere. Does anyone have a link to that information on NSClean's website?

P.S. I really want a LINK to the information.

Sent my email requsting the upgrade yesterday. Have yet to receive it. Glad to read that it seems lighter than previous versions. Hopefully I'll get mine today.

Got my update. Installed just fine, however the updater hangs. It tells me that there aren't any updates available (02-27 is the one installed) and I had a 02-28 def update with previous version. When I right click the icon to access the Check For Updates menu, now it simply hangs ad eternum.

Uninstalled v4.21 as it is inoperative in my XP Pro SP2 system and reinstalled previous version. Now the update is for defs dating to 02-27, and I am quite sure I had defs dating 02-28 before. What's the scoop?

Sorry for the 3 consecutive posts, but it bothers me when soft doesn't work the way it should. The BOCORE.exe was always taking 50% of my processor BTW, so I guess something's amiss. I always wait for feedback before installing new versions of apps, this time I didn't and it was to my disadvantage.

I haven't changed (obviously) anything in my setup since uninstalling 4.20 and installing 4.21, yet 4.21 hangs and pegs my processor.

The link that Grumble provides is correct. Easy way to get there. Scroll to bottom of page and then scroll upwards. A few paragraphs back you'll see a title "IMPORTANT Compatibility Information". It's right there.

Yes I have. However I know that the BOClean staff checks threads here periodically, and it's easier to discuss issues via a forum than by email, plus, if anyone else suffers from the same symptoms as I did before uninstalling v4.21, once a solution is found, then it is shared amongst other members.

My experience is that emailing BOClean gives a very quick response, much quicker then posting somewhere :)

    (My guess: Kevin doesn't sleep :D )

Of course, that's why I stated that I had emailed them about the problem.

The closest they seem to have is about 3/4ths of the way down this page under the system compatability section. I am thinking about giving BOClean a go what with all the raves it gets in all the forums, DSL - Wilders etc. ]http://www.nsclean.com/supboc.html...o_O :)

Addendum: I emailed Kevin for the info since I am curious too..

All well here so far and seems to have less effect on startup than previous version

BOC421.EXE only taking up 9MB VM and BOCore.exe only 272K VM.

I'm having the same problems. Upon bootup my cpu usage spikes to 100% and will not go down, until I close Boclean, which can only be done via the Taskmanager. I restart Boclean and all is fine. Seems to be problem on boot up only.
